How Harmful is Cocaine to my New Nose After Rhinoplasty?

I had a rhinoplasty a month and a half ago, and just did cocaine one time since then. I know this is probably terrible, but I would like to know how bad it is, and whether or not having done it once will affect the end result of my nose? Secondly, when, if ever, would it be ok to use cocaine without worrying that it will affect the outcome of my new nose?

Cocaine Use After Rhinoplasty

Cocaine has many addictive properties and can cause serious health complications. With respect to the nose itself, cocaine causes the blood vessels to constrict and limits the oxygen delivery to the healing nose. It can result in perforations of the septum and collapse of the nose itself. Some of the most challenging nasal reconstructions I've seen have been a result of cocaine use. Cocaine Use After Rhinoplasty

Cocaine use before or after Rhinoplasty can have serious effects on the blood supply and structural integrity of your nose. In fact there is probably nothing worse you could do. I suggest that you discuss your situation with your Surgeon immediately and don't be surprised if your results are less than expected.

How Harmful is Cocaine to my New Nose After Rhinoplasty?

I have performed Rhinoplasty for over 20 years and the worst time for you to do Cocaine would be the early post op Rhinoplasty stage. Cocaine is a vasoconstrictor which means it decrease the blood supply to the nose. During the early post Rhinoplasty phase, this decreases the healing and if continued could lead to death of tissues inside and outside of the nose. Not something you'd want, IMHO. You should tell your Rhinoplasty surgeon so he/she can examine your nose... more

Using cocaine after rhinoplasty

Cocaine use is probably the worst thing you could do to your nose after surgery. Even after your nose is healed, cocaine can cut off the blood supply inside your nose leading to septal perforation and external collapse of the nose (saddle nose deformity).

Cocaine and Rhinoplasty - A Recipe For Disaster

If you have to ask this question, then you already know the answer. Why would you spend all that money and go through an operation and then place it at risk it by doing cocaine...even if was just a time or two? This speaks more to the issue of the habit than it does anything about the rhinoplasty. If you can't quit these impulses immediately, seek help.

Cocaine dangerous in general and noxious to nasal tissues

Cocaine, whether or not you just underwent a rhinoplasty, is dangerous, addictive and can be lethal. As other respondents have already indicated as regards your nose, it causes vasoconstriction of blood vessels which means that they become markedly narrowed in size, resulting in less blood flow to the tissues which translates into less oxygen and nutrients - not a good thing. This can ultimately result in perforations in your septum and nasal collapse - not a pretty sight and an extremely... more

No good time for cocaine use after rhinoplasty

You're right- it was a terrible idea to do cocaine after a rhinoplasty. Yes, doing cocaine can affect the result of your nose. Cocaine causes vasoconstriction, which means you are decreasing the blood flow to your nose. That is the last thing you need when you are trying to heal from a rhinoplasty. You increased your risk for problems such as a septal perforation, which can require a second surgery to repair. Also, long term use of cocaine can lead to total collapse of your nose, which... more

Cocaine after rhinoplasty

Doing cocaine right now would be very bad. it can affect the health of the loining of the nose and chew away the septum, leaving you with a gaping hole on the inside of your nose. No kidding! Anything more needed to be said?

Cocaine is very harmful following rhinoplasty

Cocaine is very harmful following rhinoplasty. Cocaine can cause cardiac arrthymias, death, septal perforations, and nasal collapse. I strongly recommend you stop using cocaine immediately. If you are unable to stop on your own please seek assistance from a qualified substance abuse expert. Warmest regards. Dr. Pippin

Cocaine

Nothing can be worse for the interior nose than cocaine> It does not matter if it is before of after surgery. Cocaine is addictive and can lead to septal perforations that are difficult to live with and equally difficult to fix
