Robert B. Pollack, MD answers: Is the pinch in my arm a normal side effect of liposuction?

Hi, doctors. I had upper arm liposuction surgery 4 months ago and have fully recovered-no bruises or swelling. However, every once in a while I feel pain like a pinch within my arm for a few seconds. It goes away after I massage the pinch area for a few seconds.

Please let me know what is causing that pinch and if it's normal after lipo arm surgery.
Thank you!

It is common to have small pinches that last a few seconds and then go away for months after liposuction. This is due to nerve endings which were bruised during surgery. Nerves grow very slowly. You can expect this will gradually resolve on its own after a few more weeks as the nerve ending continues to grow and heal. Hope this helps.
