Rhinoplasty, I'd Like to Order a #2 Jennifer Aniston, Please Hold the Michael Jackson

Michael A. Persky, MD answers: Can I ask for Jennifer Aniston's nose when getting a nose job?

Just like a haircut, can I walk into a plastic surgery consultation with a picture of Jennifer Aniston and say "I want that nose!"...or is that not helpful and doctors get mad at these types of requests?

Hi Elva,

Please....You can ask for Jennifer Aniston's nose, but I don't think that she will be willing to give it to you.  Thanks for your question, it actually comes up in practice often.

A rhinoplasty is not a haircut.  Everyone's nose and facial structure is different.  You can show your rhinoplasty surgeon noses that are pleasing to you to give an idea of what you like.  Your surgeon will be able to tell you how close he or she can come to achieve those goals, but unless you are Jen's identical twin, don't expect her exact nose.

Good luck and be well.

If a doctor gets mad when you ask for Aniston's nose, find another surgeon. Certainly you cannot have her nose, but it does give the physician an idea of your aesthetics. It is a starting point to discuss how your nose can be improved. After evaluating the existing nose, the procedure should be individualized  to compliment the surrounding facial features.  In over thirty years I've never done the same nose twice.
