Farbod Esmailian, MD answers: Radiesse vs. Restylane for sagging areas around mouth?

What's better between Radiesse or Restylane for sagging areas around the mouth?

Both are very good fillers.  The thing I like about Radiesse is that it really goes a long way and does last longer than the other fillers out there.  If it is your first time you may want to start with restylane so that it does not last as long so if you are not happy with the result it will go away sooner than later.

But if you have used fillers before and now what to expect then I would recommend radiesse.

Good luck.

The area in question will determine the filler product that works best.  Radiesse is a good long term filler for the area in front of the jowl to level the contours of the jawline. For areas nearer the mouth, a softer, less dense product is indicated.

With my patients I've found Evolence collagen to be a very nice immediate filler for nasolabial folds (those deep smile lines) and it also works very well in picking up the mouth corners. Most of as we age tend to find our mouth corners droop. Lifting those corners makes a big difference in over all appearance.

The nice aspect of Evolence is the lack of bruising and the longevity. Plus the no to minimal swelling. Evolence does not "pull" water as the hyaluronic acid gels will, so you get virtually no swelling. It is a "what you see if what you get" filler.

They hyaluronic gels, Restylane, Perlane and the Juvederm formulations, will work too, though you may experience some initial swelling. For actual lip augmentation, stick with the HAs. My favorite is Juvederm for the lips and Prevelle for the lines above the lip.
