Buttock augmentation can generally be accomplished using 3 different techniques:

  1. Fat injection (lipoinjection)
  2. Autologous tissue (rearranging your own tissues typically performed during a buttock lift)
  3. Implants (alloplastic augmenation gluteoplasty)

It is best to perform this procedure under general anesthesia due to the extensive nature of the injections or surgery over, within, or under the buttock muscles.

Lipoinjection
Subcutaneous augmentation can be performed utilizing several different techniques and in the case of lipoinjection (fat injection), may require multiple staged procedures.

The fat is aspirated from the abdomen or thighs using a syringe method. The fat is then processed and transferred to smaller syringes where it is injected into the desired areas.

The results are difficult to predict because "fat take" (the amount of fat which survives after being transferred) can vary anywhere from 20 to 80%. The success depends on several factors. It is like trying to predict how many seeds will sprout when you plant them in the ground.

Fat must be obtained from a donor site and therefore satisfactory quantity and quality of fat must be available. The procedure requires an anesthestic and may be performed in the office or surgicenter. On average, 50% of the injected fat will be absorbed but the fat which remains is permanent. Several operative sessions may be required to achieve the desired result.

Risks can occur regardless of surgeon or technique. These include but are not limited to: infection, hematoma, discomfort, asymmetry, undesirable effect on an associated muscles, overcorrection, under correction, pain, prolonged swelling, dimpling, fat necrosis, fibrosis, abscess formation, adverse medication reaction, allergic reaction, need for additional "touch up" injections, palpability, visibility, distortion with muscular contraction, need for secondary revisions, and inability to guarantee a specific cosmetic result.

Approximate fees can range:
Fat injection to the buttock can range anywhere from $2500 up to $15,000 or more for surgeon's fees. Our fees average about 12,000 and tends to include liposuction of multiple areas.

Implant Augmentation
Implant size is a complex decision process determined based on your desires, anatomy, practicality and availablility. This is usually determined at the time of the initial consultation but may need to be adjusted intra-operatively.

Surgery is about 1-2 hours but the entire process takes about five hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.

I generally prefer smooth implants placed under the fascia and within the muscle using 2 incisions located in the vertical crease between the tailbone (coccyx) and rectum.

We generally recommend that you take two weeks off work and avoid strenuous physical activity for three weeks. Certain dressings may be required during this time.

The surgery can be done in several different places (hospital, office surgical suite, or surgicenter) and the prices vary accordingly with the last being the most affordable.

Depending on many factors implant buttock augmentation can range anywhere from $4000 up to $15.000. Our typical costs averages about $10,000 and include surgeon's fees (initial consultation, accredited outpatient surgicenter, silicone smooth contoured implants, certified anesthesiologists, post-operative visits and initial garments and dressings). Many other options are available and prices do vary accordingly.

Buttock Autologous Tissue Transplantation
I have discussed this elsewhere under the price of a buttock lift.

I hope this helps.
