Longevity of Restylane injections depends on how much was used and what areas were treated

Richard P. Rand, MD answers: How long does Restylane last?

How long does Restylane last for real?  I had it once and it only lasted 2 months!

Restylane is a safe and effective dermal filler. It is much better than collagen used to be considering how short it lasted and the fact that it had a potential for allergic reactions.

The area of injection is important in how long it lasts. Areas of greater motion absorb the material faster like in the lips. In the lips we typically see 4-6 months duration. Areas of no motion like the cheeks can have it last over a year.

The other factor we often see is in a patient who is on a tight budget and wants us to spread the material too thin to cover more areas than is ideal.

These patients can think they have had early resorption when actually they just didn't have enough injected in the first place.
