The nasal hump is the one of the most common reasons for men and women seeking rhinoplasty surgery. The hump (or bump) may be made of bone, cartilage, or a mixture of both. In addition to the hump there may be other imperfections in the profile, such as the angle between the nose and the upper lip which could also be corrected. In planning the procedure, your surgeon will decide on the ideal lines of the nasal profile. This planning phase of rhinoplasty requires not only an intimate knowledge of nasal anatomy and structural support, but also a strong artistic sense of facial balance and harmony. The ideal outcome in rhinoplasty is a natural-appearing nose with balance and harmony, enhancing the beauty of the eyes and lips.
This is an example of a natural rhinoplasty I performed for a patient who did not want a dramatic or obvious result from her rhinoplasty:
Dr. Rivkin is correct in stating that small humps may be corrected with non-surgical rhinoplasty but the majority of nasal humps are too large be corrected with injections. If injections are used to treat medium or large humps the result will be an unnaturally large nose with a blunted nasofrontal angle (the junction of the forehead and nose).
