Pre-treatment Preparation Options for Erbium Glass Laser?

I am looking into the Erbium Glass laser procedure for my acne scarring. Unfortunately, I also have melasma. The doctor gave me a cream to use, like Maderma, to reduce the chances of hyperpigmentation, but the cream is making me break out. Is there anything I can do to get my skin ready for the procedure without causing further damage?
