Traveling after surgery

By soilschick on 29 Dec 2012

I have been trying to find an answer to my question.  I will be off for 6 weeks after my surgery on Jan. 16.  My office is thinking about sending me to Houston in the middle of Feb.  They want me to attend two, one week seminars in a row for specialized training.  Could I travel that far, probably3 hour flight, and attend classes for that long?  Personally, I would rather be on a cruise.  ;)  My job is a physically demanding job in construction and the reason why I'm off so long.

I talked to my PS today and he said I could look at longer travel about one month post op.

At 1 week post-op, I'm healing remarkably well - according to ps. I'm even cleared to go back to work at 10 days post-op. However, I find that quick trips to the grocery store are extremely painful and exhausting. I'm dreading a 1 hour drive (and the vibrations from the car, not to mention pot holes) between me and my final family Christmas of the season tomorrow. (I'm not returning to work on Monday, as scheduled - BTW.) 1 month out, the circumstances might be very different. You definitely want your ps recommendation on this before booking any flights. Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe someone who is 1 mo post-op will have a better idea???

No one has traveled after surgery, okay. I was hoping someone could tell me how they felt during and after flying or long drives.

Hi, just wondering if you found anything out about the travel? I'm in a similar situation, thanks!

I asked my PS and he said for longer drives and flights, he would prefer that I wait 4 weeks. I just started driving 5 days post op. I drove around 25 miles today.

Ok :) how are you doing? My family has a trip booked to Jamaica 4 weeks after my surgery, I've read mixed reviews, the flight is seven hours...
