Has anyone ever traveled out of country by themselves for a Tummy Tuck or Mommy Makeover?

By Kh22502 on 03 Aug 2012

Hello, I am a mother of three lovely children I have lost ALL of the baby weight and more but still cringe at showing any skin, I would love to just feel comfortable in my body without the sagging skin. So the decision has been made and my family is supportive the only catch is that I will be travelling to Costa Rica to a facility that I feel comfortable with BUT with my husband's work schedule I have no one coming with me. I am nervous because the after care will be at a facility that will give 8 hours of nurse's care a day and the first 3 days look the most painful. I guess what I am getting at is that I am scared that no one will be able to help me in the middle of the night to say use the bathroom for example.   Has anyone else ever done this on their own before, and how did you get through it?

I went by myself to Tijuana on Oct. 3 for Mommy makeover. I had also gone by myself 2 years earlier for sleeve surgery. I am not a needy person and felt my husband would be in the way and be very bored. I was not in a lot of pain after the first day (even then, was not a lot of pain and was on an IV painkiller while in the hospital) I really don't see the need to have anyone go with you. The pain is very manageable and you will be able to get to the bathroom fine by yourself. Don't worry about it and enjoy the time to just sleep, rest, and recover.

I'm in Mexico now and had my surgery on Wednesday. The first 2 days were hellish for pain but now I'm fine. I'll be staying until next Wednesday. The nurses here are 24/7 but even though they tell me to get them if I need the restroom, to get up, etc. I have found that I prefer to do this myself. I just go really slow. Reaaaaallllly slow. It's not a race to the toilet, so I figure, why rush? I was afraid at first to be alone but have found it to be very peaceful. No stress of regular daily life, no phones, door bells, dinners to make, guilt over dirty house. I just lay here all day long. Good luck! You'll do great. PM me if you have any other questions. ps - ask your doctor before you get there what type of pain medication they plan to give you post op. That ended up being my undoing because they gave me the equivalent of Tylenol. So I had to white knuckle the pain for the first couple days. Today is day 3 and I'm fine. Just be specific with the doctor on the exact pain medicine or bring your own.
