Few questions

By debi'stime on 04 Oct 2010

I'm 10 days out before my TT & had a few questions: 1) how long does the swelling last for or is each person different? 2) it is definitely easier to sleep in a recliner for the first few days, right? Thanks!

Debi, I am 6 days post op and still swollen, but the compression garment is wonderful. We took the pain pump out yesterday and showered again (twice now) and everyday feels better. I am sleeping on a regular queen bed that is kind of low to the ground, with pillows under my knees and back, kind of in a W shape and doing well. Also the recliner during the day is a good change. I kept the heavy duty stockings on till yesterday also, and have been up walking around in my back yard and through the house. I had so many questions and this site is wonderful honesty and real life. Good Luck and God Bless You. I am sure you will feel so good about doing this for you.

mkell - You are really cruising...good job!  See I told you that you cold do it!  Just remember how amazing you are going to look:)  Can't wait to hear more from you.
Hi Debi...the swelling does vary person by person but I can tell you it will most likely be the worst swelling you have ever experienced. I really started to notice a big improvement at about 4 months post op. However I am now 6 months post op and continue to have some minor swelling by about 2:30 - 3:00 each day. I was told that your body could take up to a full year to heal completely. I am thinking that I am on that route! I rented a hospital bed for the first two weeks post op and it was the best money ever spent. There is now way I could have slept in my own bed. I have heard others say that the recliner worked well for them. I do think you need to have one or the other though.
