Will a Dr do lipo during a tummy tuck if he thinks it's needed? Even if it wasn't in the original plan?

It may get worse, before it gets better; but it does get better. Just be sure to rest lots, including away from the computer, and you'll do just fine.

I think many Plastic Surgeons do what they need to do to make you look good....not so much for you, but for their reputation. I had a Breast Augmentation in December and when I was in Recovery the doctor popped in to check on me and said that he gave me bigger implants than we discussed because when I was lying their he felt I needed "a little more". I am SOOOO happy he made that last minute decision!!

I now go for my Tummy Tuck on Monday, and hope he'll make the same judgement call if he finds lipo to be necessary to optimize my results.

Well, I had my surgery yesterday afternoon and I think doing pretty ok considering the circstamstances. I am not in super terrible pain, but I was warned about days two and three being worse...so we'll have to wait and see how terrible it gets. So far the worst part is not being able to stand or lay straight...staying hunched over is causing extreme back pain more than anything.

Not too bad! Even better than I expected, although I do have a high tolerance for pain and prepared for the worst. I have a 3:30 appointment with my PS this afternoon...I can't wait til he takes off this binder so I can see my incision and belly button. Also, I have only one drain, but that hasn't been bothering me because he taped it securely.

On my pre-op paperwork that I have to sign there is an area that states that I am concenting to have the surgeon preform "other procedures" in which the surgeon feels necessary.... I wouldnt guess a PS would throw in a free butt lift..Lol that is kind of funny. but, as far as I am concerned a little extra lipo to enhance your results would be fine by most women... as most docs include it in their TT, but may not always mention it.

Thanks, that's good information to have. I'm gonna drive the Dr's office crazy calling with questions. At least now know what to look for. :o)

I was to have the full TT with lipo, plus lipo on the flanks. He did tell me at my pre-op that he would do some lipo on the 'back fat' area between bra and waist. He did that at no charge, and I didn't ask for it, but he did tell me ahead of time.

So your dr did a butt lift but you didn't know until after... so he didn't tell you and you didn't have to pay for it? How great is that! I hope it turns out fabulous!

I had a "surprise" the before/after photo sent with what was done on my TT day stated that I had a brazillian butt lift.. and he put 40 or 400 cc's into both sides of my Rump. I didn't ask for that nor did I think I had needed it but it states it on the paper. I will be asking him during my visit for the drains to be removed. He's really good at what he does but i didn't understand that part

Oh my...well I hope you like your rump:)   If a doctor went ahead and made mine bigger I would hit the cieling.

Maybe it was a typo on the paper???

I agree with Barbie.  Your doctor needs your prior consent to do any procedure so this would be discussed prior to surgery.   If you think you may want or need some lipo please discuss this during the consult.  The doctor will let you know what he thinks and also charge you accordingly.

There should not be any surprises (good or bad) in a surgical procedure.

I disagree. While a doctor is not going to do extensive or aggressive liposuction additionally, I do believe most doctors will incorporate it if they feel it will aid in optimal results. I had a friend who had her breasts done and after the surgery the doctor told her he lipo'd the excess fat in her arm pit area because it was in the best interest of her results. Alot of doctors "include" some amount of liposuction as a part of a TT... they dont always mention it.. I would ask your PS if it is something that he does as well. You've got to remember a PS career relies on how good he makes YOU look.

Thank you! You just made me feel less stupid for asking the question in the first place. I will talk to my PS about it prior to my surgery. The poor guy, I'm going in with a list of questions a mile long!

Salem - there is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to surgical procedures.  You go in proudly with that list and fire away :)

Pretty sure that's a big "no". Planning and scheduling for any surgery, especially elective plastic surgery which is most always paid by the patient is very precise when it comes to services rendered. The surgeon will be doing exactly what you contracted for - nothing additional.
