Maybe I should have said something about this earlier, since many here are in desperate need of having their inks removed, even if it may mean scarring (saline method, excision, etc.). But there is a method used (not popularly) called IRC or Infrared Coagulation. This was popularized by Dr. Wilkinson in San Antonio, TX to help out ex-gang members with cheap tattoo removal. Since then a number of clinics opened up, as well as to the general public at the same costs, most common all throughout Texas (I believe it's state funded there). Here is my experience with IRC and the process in general. In 2012 before I started laser, I went out to San Antonio, TX to satattooremoval or the wellness & skin clinic, opened and ran by Dr. Wilkinsons predecessors, for IRC. I was told that they couldn't treat large areas (I'm not sure how large they're able to treat), so I had them go at a couple parts of my arm anyway. What happened is I paid them $30 bucks, had a nurse inject a numbing cream which made the area swell up like crazy, then the IRC machine was pressed against my skin and it lit up to a red color when it was shooting (burning?) me. I didn't feel a thing. No pain, nothing. The whole area can not be treated at at once, its generally 3-4 months tops for a complete removal. This is because it would mess up blood flow (I believe), 30 it's spaced out. You can research it, the photos, but think of it like this; your tattoo will have flesh colored dots throughout it (where it was treated and removed), then the next month you go back and the areas where theres still ink is treated, then a 3rd and sometimes 4th treatment is needed to get rid of any ink that's still remaining. Aftercare for this is crucial. There was something like 2 weeks (if I recall correct) where I had to keep the area bandaged, applying anti-burn and antibiotic cream to it a couple of times a day, and keep it dry. It's the exact same as caring for a burn wound. In fact, It's been a while since I've researched this or even thought of it, I think it is a burn wound. The areas that got treated where completely removed. Some left scaring, some didn't. I didn't bother going back because It just wasn't worth it to me, I wanted to fade everything for a coverup, so I knew I was going to eventually do laser anyway. But, with that said, if I had just one or two tattoos that I wanted completely removed and didn't mind a chance of scarring, I'd do this again in a second.Sorry If a lot of this information is vague, but like I said it's been a while. I went to the website of the place in San Antonio that I went to, but it looks like now they're doing some type of saline thing (still cheap). But if anyone would be interested in this, please search for IRC, Infrared Coagulation, or Dr. Wilkinson. I'm sure there's some info out there, and I just wanted to give people a heads up and they can look more into it themselves.
