I went and saw a Dr. today just to see what he would say.
So the Dr. I saw today said
1. I won the biggest boobs this month award
2. That he would not be able to make me as small as I want.
Probably somewhere around a DD. That if you started taking too much "everything starts dying" When I said does it change the picture if I said that I don't
care if I keep my nipples? Then he wouldn't have to worry about keeping the
pedicle and nipple alive. His response he doesn't do nipple grafts which I thought
seemed to be what is done when going really big to really small but he
seemed really against them period.
3. He said if I didn't care about having a nipple and wanted to go
really small why not just get a masectomy? In
which case I could go to a regular surgeon. (I suppose I
could get a masectomy and then B sized implants but that just seems
beyond stupid.)
To which I reply - but why can't you go really small but have a B
size or maybe C size bump without a nipple? Its not a free nipple graft
situation
if you don't reattach the nipple.
At first it seemed like he was saying he would do that if he could but
there is no way you could. But then as we talked, really without coming out with it
seemed
morelike he just wouldn't. He wasn't coming right out and saying - I can't
for xyz medical reasons other than 'when you start to take that much
away things start dying" He didn't act freaked out when I brought it up
but even though I guess he kept it to himself I don't think he liked the
idea.
I would understand if there is some medical reason why they can't other
than the keeping the pedicle/nipple. Just tell me its not medically
feasible.
Or...it is but they personally won't do it. I guess he just doesn't get the difference btw wanting a B and being flat? Like why bother? IDKHe did say masectomies were easier surgically and to recover from. And I wouldn't ever have to have a
mammogram again.
I should go to the Botched guys. Episode " Woman who doesn't want her
boobs or nipples". I'd fit right in with all the other wacko's. That
just might get me on the show!
I asked about the small boob/no nipple thing in the RealSelf Dr. Forum
as a question a few weeks ago and didn't get a straight answer either. I think Dr's think its crazy to care more about going smaller than than caring about my
nipple.
But its not their decision!
I realize that DD is a lot smaller than I am now and will feel a lot
better - but its still a DD! I remember being a DD back in my early 20s and it was too big!
He showed me pictures where the boobs were almost as big as
mine and what the results were. Too big. I just want around a B.
Its a 1000.00 extra for liposuction on the side areas which I would
need, he said insurance never pays that. When I asked if that would
keep me from having "dog ears" he said, well 'mostly' which
not really reassuring.
He said that he would have another...plastics? guy with him? during the
surgery. I didn't understand that part and that he would have me
spend the night in the hospital because they
were removing so much, and it would be close to 5 hours for the surgery.
He said something about seeing people once a week for a few weeks after surgergy. That he used 3 layers of stitches with the internal ones being disolvable. Yes, some people get spitting more than others, no way to tell. That the bigger the boob and reduction the more liklihood there would be a gap open up at the bottom where the vertical and horizontal cuts meet and are stitched because there is more tension on the skin. But that salve and patience usually took are of it. After a couple of weeks(? can't remember) he goes from stitches to steri strips. He uses drains.
Despite my weight they are going to submit to insurance and see what
they say because my boobs are so big a it might meet the scale they use regardless.
I wasworried they might not agree to do this even if I paid because of my weight.
I picked this place sort of randomly. I can't find any recommendations for any of
the plastics Dr's here in Dayton. The few pictures he showed me as examples of peoplewho had boobs almost as big as mine and the after shots looked ok. I must have frustrated him with my I want to be small questions because
he actually used the word f*** twice although the conversation seemed to be going ok actually. He didn't seem angry or anything. The nurse apologized on the way
out but I thought it was
kind of funny. I think we had a pretty good discussion. So those are my choices - DD or masectomy. If I could even find a Dr.
to do a masectomy without a history of breast cancer, I wonder.
If insurance is paying vs. me paying those are different
decision trees.
Its freaking me out a little that insurance might pay for this at all. I thought it was a done deal they wouldn't. The idea that I might get an approval letter in a couple of months makes it seem a little more real and freaky. He said once you get the approval letter you have a 6 month window to decide and get it done. At my age I know I'm never going to want to do this again. I'm not in a relationship, don't care about being in one, I'm not using them for anything. All they've ever done is garner attention I didn't want. I've never been into my breasts as part of my identity. No one is ever going to see them. I want to be free. Just..........throw on a t-shirt and run out and play! For a second opinion I was going to make an appt with the Ohio State University Plastic Surgeon's (http://www.osuplasticsurgery.com/) office in Columbus as
I thought they have some sort of connection to the med school there
which has a decent ranking. They told me they wont do anyone with a BMI over 35 (I'm 39)
regardless of whether you are paying yourself or not. That felt like a
slap in the face. Sorry if your too fat we won't help you. I don't even have diabetes or any other health problem. The only medication I'm on is for thyroid. Sheesh..
