Anyones bellybutton look almost closed??

By Kartony1025 on 05 Jul 2011

Hi, I am 18 days postop and doing really good. I'm very pleased with my stomach, my scar is healing well, and my PS said I can start my scar treatment with silicone strips. My problem is my BB...it looks so weird, it's a circle with creases inside and a very small opening. My PS says it's swollen and will look better once swelling is gone. Has anyone experienced this? If so how before it starts looking normal?? I will try to post a pic!!

Thanks Kimmers! I read all the medical advice...however I still feel anxious about the way my BB looks. I read about a marble trick to "round" out your BB...have you ever heard of this? Is it safe?

I have read about the marble trick and will send you a link to another user who has been doing this since the beginning.  She is pretty happy with her results from this technique.

I'm a bit weirded out with mine as well. Going to look for a marble...

HG girl how far along are you in your recovery? I keep praying that mine will look like a "normal innie" instead of a cross between an innie and an outie! I am not happy with the way it looks but I'm trying to be patient...the marble trick scares me a little bit. Risk for infection...

I'm only 10 days into my recovery but feel as though it's pretty small, especially since my friend just showed me hers. I can't see it stretching...I just don't know. I'm not going to do anything about it for a bit, just watch and wait. How far along are you?

I'm at post op day 21, my husband said he can tell it's changing but I don't see it. I'll just wait it out, I guess and discuss it with my PS at our next appt.

The belly button does go through changes! Mine was horrible looking at first & now I love it. My PS said it will get even better! I am 3 months post op.

Thanks for giving me some hope Madison! I am so scared it's going to stay this way!

I asked my PS about the marble trick and he is totally against it. He said it would restrict the blood flow. I really wanted to try it too.

Friendly4,

I really want to try it too, but I know it presents a risk for infection. I need to learn how to be patient!!

Just Googled the marble trick! Weird. Would love to hear of others who've used this successfully.

I had my surgery about 5wks ago, my bb was very flat looking so my PS suggested to roll a small piece of gauze inside my bb and secure it with medical tape. I started doing that around the second week post surgery. I have notice a big difference and it is safe.
Kartony1025 23 Jul 2011
Now that's a great idea! I will try that!
Kartony1025 23 Jul 2011
How long do you leave the gauze in? Do you just do it at night or 24 hours a day?
Slopez 25 Jul 2011
I only take it off to shower and then I apply a new clean gauze after my shower.

My PS had my also stuff gauze in my belly button cover with tape starting at 2 weeks, for 2 weeks. I did change it 3 times a day, because the shape changes with movement. Mine is struggling to look like a open normal belly button.

Actually, the very first tape I used left marks on each side of my belly button and they don't go away. I think it's the adhesive. :(

I tried this gauze technique, and It made my BB and the area around it very tender, so i stopped until I talk to my PS, also the tape also left marks.. :(

Kartony1025, what are you using for the marks?
Kartony1025 4 Aug 2011
I started using bio oil, the tape marks are almost gone now--very faint. Are you using anything? I saw my PS today and he informed me that he can do a revision of BB after the 6 month mark. He thinks it's swelling that's making it look so odd... We'll see

Kimmers recommended it, have to pick some up.
