Are There Special Considerations for Liposuction on Asian Patients? I Scar Easily.

I'm female, 27,5'2'', 120 pound. I'm athletic, but all my life have had fat in my lower abdomen. I'm asian and have skin that scars VERY easily. I was reading on Realself that a doctor suggested VASER lipo since it worked better on asian patients "since they tended to have fibourus fat" What type of Lipo would work best for me? Are there any special considerations for asian patients? I've found someone sites that talk about "asian liposuction"--is there such a thing?

A: Liposuction for Asians

Asian fat does not differ from that of any other race. There is no scientific evidence to support that claim.  A surgeon may make an hypothesis or a guess that Asian fat is "different,"  but that would be only opinion or worse yet, hype.  At the last meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgery New Technology Forum, Vaser liposuction was not shown to have superiority over other techniques.  Promoting Vaser is primarily a means of marketing, as is the claim that there is some different technique to use on Asian patients. Darker skin types, including Asians, Hispanics, Greeks, and Afro-Americans,  tend to hyperpigment around scars.  It is important to use fade cream around the scars after surgery to get the best result. Hope your result is all that you want it to be!

Is Neck Liposuction or Chin Augmentation Right for Me?

I am a 23yr old female looking to improve my side profile. I have a lot of fat under my chin and this causes an awful side profile. It also shows from the front. From what I've read neck/chin liposuction could be a good option. Also chin implants seem like another possible idea.

A: Liposuction of the Neck and Chin Augmentation

Thank you for your question and photograph.  It is besdt to evaluate your needs and goals with more of your profile showing in order to give you good advice.  Liposuction of this area can be very gratifying , particularly in some one young (like yourself) that has good skin elasticity.  Increasing the projection of your chin is likely to give better definition to your jawline and likely better balance to your middle and upper face.  I do not use "implants" for chin augmentation, but prefer cancelous bone chips from a human tissue bank.  These provide a calcium matrix that your own tissue grows into so as to avoid the problems of a foreign body.

Tt with Lip of Flanks, Back and Axillary- But What Are Flanks?

im ready for my tt and lipo of flanks and back. where are my flanks? are we talking hips. I do not have a lot of fat on my hips, nearly all in my tummy.

A: Liposuction of the Flanks With a Tummy Tuck

It is very common to liposuction the flanks (hips) at the same time as a tummy tuck.  In many women if you skip this part you can have an unnatural fullness just above your gluteal (buttock) region.  If your upper back needs some liposuction for contouring , it is probable your flanks/ lower back will also benefit from it.  Make sure you understand what your surgeon is thinking in your behalf  so that you can be pleased with the result.
