I am African American. I have dark skin and my skin is also sensitive (I use fragrance free products and sometimes my skin is prone to eczema). I wanted some help with fine lines, and I was told that a combination of microdermabrasion and a Vitalize peel would help. Is this combination safe for my skin? What are the possible side effects? And, if there are side effects, how long would it take for them to subside?
Microdermabrasion is a topical exfoliating procedure. Often it is combined with a chemical peel because it helps clear away debris and dead cells from the skin, allowing peels to penetrate better, deeper, and more effectively. Microdermabrasion machines can be turned up or down as far as the settings to make the procedure more comfortable for those with sensitive skin. I can see no reason why you couldn't have a microdermabrasion treatment. However, with Vitalize peels, I have seen them but do not use them in my practice. They are technically a lighter chemical peel that is supposed to have no downtime. I would recommend that you see an office that is extremely experienced with these specific peels. There may be some possible concerns for doing them on AA skin, but I don't know. Possibilities could include post-inflammatory hyper or hypo pigmentation, at worst. But again, I don't do these peels, and while they are supposed to be light peels, there are some possible concerns and you should go over all of those with the office you are considering.
The texture of my skin is dry with lines, and my pores are larger then they were....what can I do?
Juvia is a CO2 laser, which is very far from a simple microdermabrasion treatment. Juvia is more for skin resurfacing, not treating dryness and pores. There are many treatments in between that might be beneficial to you, such as Laser Genesis or IPL. I'd look into those first, because you are jumping from a simple, lunchtime procedure, to something with significant downtime.
I purchased a product called Silk'n FaceFX which uses a red light that heat up to 40 degrees Celsius and said to work from the inside out; increasing blood flow, collagen production, etc. It was also said to be the first FDA approved periorbital at home machine of its kind. At the same time I purchased an at-home PMD (microdemabrasion) from the same TV shopping network. I didn't see any of them mentioned here. producThank you
At-home lasers and microdermabrasion machines are much lower grade and quality than laser treatments you can do in medical offices. They are not medical grade or medical strength, and the products that go with them are lesser as well. I'm sorry that you bought these but I think they are ineffective and a waste of money. If you can return them, I would. I've seen many, many issues with people using at-home machines and products like these, and nothing good.
