What is the reliability of such techniques compared to the ones that require stitches?
I have been performing lower eyelid surgery using a CO2 ( carbon dioxide) laser for over 15 years. The advantage of this technique:
- No skin incision
- No stitches
- No scalpel blade
This same laser helps to stop bleeding so the surgery can be faster with less swelling and black and blueness than traditional methods. The same laser Mixto can be used to rejuvenate the skin on the lower eyelids.
The attached video is of upper eyelid surgery, where a stitch is necessary.
See photos. I'm 32 and my skin is otherwise in great condition with no permanent wrinkles yet. I am wondering which would be right for me (and my budget). I've read there are many different methods, but based on these photos, looking for your advice. This is making me look older than I am I feel. Thermage Eyes ($1000 for eyes only) Pixel Perfect Fractional Rejuvination ($300 for eyes only) Blepharoplasty ($3000) Any Other Suggestions?
You have several choices to improve your eyelid skin:
- Blepharoplasty: either using a laser or scalpel blade, the upper eyelid skin and fat can be contoured. One week of downtime.
- Thermage: can give you tightening of the upper eyelid skin. No down time.
- Mixto or Pixel laser (my preference is Mixto) can tighten the skin and can be used in combination with thermage. 3-5 days of down time.
You need a complete evaluation by a cosmetic surgeon; preferably an Ocular Plastic surgeon as you appear to have ptosis ( a drooping of the eyelid) with compensation ( raising) of the eyebrow. Neither a blepharoplasty nor any of the other procedures will correct this. A ptosis repair my be in order.
I really want my upper lids done, but someone told me that I might not be able to close my eyes if I do. So I was wondering if I am a candidate for the procedure?
Tammy 10, Dr. Steinsapir has given you very important advice to follow. It is very important that your eyes are properly measured and examined prior to eyelid surgery. No one wants to have a cosmetic procedure to be left with an adverse affect like poor eyelid closure. I invite you to my Sterling Heights' location, Accents Cosmetic Surgery and Medical Spa, for a complimentary evaluation. Together we will determine your best course of action in regard to your eyelids. I look forward to working with you. Mark Berkowitz, MD 586-254-7692
