Are there different kinds of labiaplasty surgery?
Labia Minor Reduction (Labiaplasty) is a surgical procedure to trim down and shape the inner lips (labia minora) of the vagina. The labia minora is the inner flap of skin that covers the clitoris and vagina.
Are there different kinds of labiaplasty surgery?
Labiaplasty (often spelled labioplasty) is a procedure designed to reduce the labia minora. The labia minora are the inner folds of skin/mucosa of the female genitalia. This is different from the labia majora (the outer folds of skin) which is often reduced in massive weight loss patients. Women of all ages often consult for a labiaplasty for several reasons. The labia can become stretched and elongated after childbirth, sexual activity, hormonal changes, or genetics. Women complain of discomfort during various physical activities such as jogging, horseback riding, and bicycling. They also complain of rashes, difficulty maintaining hygiene, or simply lack of personal self esteem.
A labiaplasty is a simple procedure that reduces excessive labia minora. It can be performed under local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia. Downtime is short, and pain following the procedure is minimal. Most surgeons ask patients to wait several weeks prior to resuming sexual activity. Make sure you are seeing a provider who is experienced in this procedure and be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.
