Mohs Surgery, created by Dr. Fredrick E. Mohs, is a skin surgery that is used to treat common types of skin cancer. Mohs surgery is typically done with local anaesthesia. During the Mohs procedure the surgeon removes the skin layer by layer, or slice by slice, sending each slice to be biopsied while you are still in the office and numbed. A microscope is used to precisely identify the cancerous tissue, minimizing the amount of healthy tissue removed and thus the resulting scar when compared with other surgical methods of skin cancer treatment. You remain under the Mohs procedure until a layer comes back clean. So they only take off exactly what's necessary to "get' the skin cancer.
