When you get CoolSculpting or Vanquish, where does the fat go and if I eat more, is it going to come back and where does it go?

Well, with most technologies, you're not getting rid of all the fat. What your body does after the process by the CoolSculpting or the Vanquish, the fat gets eliminated as waste by your body. So naturally as your waste system disposes of the fat, fat cell actually gets taken away by your own immune system. I can tell you exactly the time frame with each treatment of when that's going to occur.

As far as gaining weight and so forth, what I tell patients is you're not eliminating all the fat as you would like with a mechanical procedure like liposuction which has its own plus and minuses. What happens is you're born with a certain number of fat cells. So let's say you decide and have a lot of wine in Las Vegas or you decide to go to a all-you-can-eat buffet, what's going to happen is that the remaining fat cells are going to either balloon back up or your body is going to decide to deposit that fat somewhere else that it decides that it has leptin receptors. So some patients, their bodies may want to put it on their buttocks. They like that. So it all depends on where your body wants to put the fat.

In the 4 years that I've been doing CoolSculpting and in the year that I've been doing Vanquish, I honestly feel with those patients... those patients are better addressed by going to a plastic surgeon or to a dietician and have themselves evaluated to probably get down to more of an ideal weight before you do something like CoolSculpting or Vanquish because those procedures are really not for fat removal. They're really more for contouring a patient's body so you really want the patient to be closer to their ideal weight, maybe 10-15 pounds over and then you can do those procedures on them but if they need to lose much more than that they're better off seeing a plastic surgeon for liposuction or seeing a dietitian.
