Dr. Jennifer Reichel: Hi, I'm Dr. Jennifer Reichel at Pacific Dermatology and Cosmetic Center and this is my patient Katie and we're going to demonstrate today injections of a filler into her nasolabial folds right here. The filler that we've chosen to use is Restylane. It's a hyaluronic acid filler and the one that I like very much.
Okay. So the first thing is that we're going to clean the area with a little bit of alcohol. For Katie, I'm going to do an injection with a little bit of lidocaine which is a numbing agent, so that the injections with the Restylane are painless. Oftentimes, we'll use ice or we'll use topical numbing cream as well.
The numbing medicine is lidocaine sets in basically instantaneously and then this is the Restylane. It comes in a syringe. It's clear product. We'll take the tag off of it and I'm just injecting along the creases.
Are you feeling much of that?
Katie: Not at all.
Dr. Jennifer Reichel: You'll have effects immediately. Unlike with Botox which is used to treat lines like these. When you inject Botox, it takes about five to seven days for the effect to take place. Okay Katie. I'll have you open for me and now I'm going to do a little massage along there. It's very malleable. These fillers are malleable so you can actually kind of move them around.
I make sure to tell patients that they need to be careful after having a filler done that they don't move it around. So we give them instructions on sleeping on their back and not wearing swim goggles or doing massages, something like that. That way, you might get pressure where you've done the actual injection.
So the rest of doing fillers, the big main thing would be if you got a bruise and that does happen. It doesn't like Katie is going to get any. In fact, I think by another 20 to 30 minutes, it will look like she hasn't done anything, but there is a little risk that you can get a bruise while doing a filler. Okay, good job.
Katie: Thanks.
