Hi. I'm Dr. Adam Oppenheimer, and I'm a plastic surgeon in Melbourne, Florida. I wanted to take a minute to talk about Smart Lipo. I think all the different liposuction techniques can be very confusing to the patient, so I wanted to focus on this one, so that my patients can be the most educated patients out there.

Conventional liposuction involves adding fluid, which contains a local anesthetic, and adrenalin, to help cause some constriction of the blood vessels, and decrease bleeding. And for most patients, standard liposuction by adding the fluid, and then adding the tubes, the cannulas that suction out the fluid, is sufficient. Smart Lipo is great for patients who also want skin tightening. The procedure basically adds the extra step of adding the laser energy, to tighten the skin and to break up the fat underneath. And, for some patients who have extra loose skin in the abdomen, who, for example, don't want to have a tummy tuck. Or for patients who have loose skin on the inner thighs, along with extra fat, who don't want the scars associated with a thigh lift.

I think Smart Lipo is an excellent way to get away from the incisions, and to have liposuction with the element of skin tightening. And that, to me, is the biggest difference between the conventional liposuction and laser liposuction or Smart Lipo. I'd love to see you in Melbourne, Florida to talk a little bit more about these techniques, and any other in plastic surgery. Thanks again for watching. I'm Dr. Adam Oppenheimer.
