Motivation: I have had a crooked and ugly nose...
Motivation:
I have had a crooked and ugly nose since childhood. I was often teased by my classmates in elementary school. They called med a goose, or an eagle because of my drooping tip and hump on the nose.
I have wanted a surgery for a long time, but the funds and time was not in my favor. Furthermore, my nose is inherted from my dad, so that part of the family was not happy about my constant nagging about my nose.
Finding the surgeon:
I looked at different surgeons around Europe, even in turkey. As i come from Croatia, i looked on the opportunities there. I found Poliklinika Dr. Toncic. I had a good feeling about this clinic, their websites was informative, there were pictures and statements from other patients. I went online a googled dr. tonic and found only positive reviews. I read all reviews on forums from the UK, Germany, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia. And all of the patients were fully satisfied with their surgery and outcome, weather it was Rihnoplasty or some other surgery.
Contact with the Clinic:
I wrote an email to the clinic. And the were next day I received answer. Ms. Sikoronja who is head of the office, asked me to return some information on what my wishes were and If i could come by for a consultation. As i work full time and study in another country i was not able to go to Zagreb before the surgery.
This was no problem. Ms. Sikoronja asked me to send pictures of my face front and profile in order for the doctor to analyze the possibilities. The replies and communication was from day to day, and sometimes within the same day. I guess i could have called the clinic, but i was satisfied with the e-mail correspondence, as i like having things black in white.
The doctor looked at my pictures and Ms. Sikoronja wrote me back with the results.
My nose was very good for rihnoplasty. The doctor would shorten my nose, lift my tip and shave down my hump. Furthermore he would narrow the tip and the nasal bone. My nose was "swinging" a little to the right side. Which apparently was something only i noticed, but the doctor said he would try to straighten it up. But usually is has something to do with the whole face structure, and how the bone "sets".
I got a price on the surgery, i only had to do the cosmetic aspect, as my breathing and septum was alright.
Booking, paying and flight:
I booked the surgery due on the 20th of January. at 9 o'clock. As i was traveling from northern Europe to Croatia. I needed a plane ticket, a place to stay and transportation. I found my tickets by my self, i paid 200 USD for a return flight to Zagreb.
The accommodation is up to you, but the clinic offers accommodation as well. I took the offer, and the clinic arranged a home stay at a nice Croatian woman's flat, where all meals were included for 74 USD a day. I would highly recommend this offer, as there is always someone who looks after you and makes you dinner. The woman i stayed at, was mother to one of the secretaries at the clinic. She was therefor aware of the post operative procedures and the food i was able to eat. All of it was good tasting and healthy food in order for my system to heal well.
Furthermore i paid for transport 135 USD for a whole week. Mr. Marko picked me up at the airport. Drove me to and from the clinic for surgery, post op check up, and for the splint removing. And back to the airport on departure day.
I paid 360 USD in advance to book the surgery by bank transfer. I got a confirmation right away from the clinic when the money was received. The rest i paid on the day of surgery.
The procedure:
Monday the 20th i arrived at the clinic at 8.45 am. I had a blood test done, as it is law i croatia before undergoing anesthesia. As the blood was driven to the laboratory by my driver, i was having a consulation with dr. Toncic. He looked at my nose for functional and asthetic problems. As i did not have any functional problems we went straight to the case. I was given a hand mirror and told him what i dod not like. I did not have big expectations as whatever was done couldn't be worse than it already was. The doctor told me what he would do and how my nose would look afterwards.
After this I was photographed front/profile. I was asked health Q's if i had any diseases or took any medication that might interfere with my health or the procedure. After that i signed a form stating that I am fully aware of what is going to happen and that I am informed of the consequences.
After that i paid the rest of the bill, this was for the procedure, the accommodation and transport.
I was then taking in to a prep room, where i was stripped down to underpants, and my bra, i could keep my socks on as well. I was dressed in a surgery gown and cap, and jumped into a pair of crocs.
My stuff was locked in a closet, and I had the nurse take my cellphone so I could call my mom after surgery.
I was then walked into the surgery studio, where I was placed on the table. I had an IV put in my arm and got some relaxing fluid. I think it was fluent ibuprofen, but i don't know (my mom is a nurse, and thats what they usually use). After me lying in the table getting relaxed I was giving the sedation. The procedure was done under local anastheasia with sedation. The sedation knocked me out within minutes, before I was gone the doctor came in to ask me if I was comfy, I blabbered something I was already very "high" and my head was spinning. It was not bad just weird.
As I was "awake" the whole time i could see and here the things that was done. Dr. Toncic started to put in the local anesthetic in and around my nose. This somehow made me sneeze a lot of times, that i remember.
After that i fell asleep and i heard my self snoring. I woke up around the end of the surgery i think. Dr. Toncic had just broken up my nose and was relocating it, i heard the bone breaking. But it was not disgusting or anything. I fell in and out of sleep so it was hard know how far from the end I was.
The last thing i remember is me getting of the table and walking into my bed.
I woke up 1 or 2 hours after the surgery i think, whit gel icepacks on my nose and around my neck. I was all taped up, but no pain what so ever. No nausea nothing. After a couple of hours I was dressed in my own clothes and picked up by mr. Marko. I was tired, but still no pain.
Post op:
I was fed soup when I came home, and went to bed straight away.
The next three days was hard, as i could only breath through my mouth, very dry mouth and lips.
I only took the painkillers i was ordinated on day two where i had a headache a small one, but a pressing one.
I only got a little hematoma around the eyes not as bad as i was expecting.
On day three my tampones was removed at the clinic which made the breathing easier.
Day 7 I got my splint off. I have never been so happy! It was a small little button nose, even though it was still swollen.
I left Croatia the next morning.
It is now almost 3 weeks Post OP. and my nose is changing ALOT. some mornings i wake up looking like a clown nose tip swollen, and somedays my nasal bridge is swollen.
At the latest my tips has been steady, still swollen, but on the same level. My nasal bridge has been swinging in and out of swelling, but the bone was broken so i guess its normal to have some swelling around there.
I was informed that the result becomes truly visible a year after surgery. But already after 2 months it would look close to normal.
So now i jus have to be patience. I have watched out not to touches my nose, i still sleep with my head up.
Still have no pain, although the crusts in my nose after the stitches are killing me, the tickle and my nose itches like crazy somedays, because of the dry skin that has formed after a week under a gips splint.
I can only give dr. Toncic my best recommendations. It was a quick, professional and painless procedure. I never felt uncertain or uncomfy at the clinic. The staff was very lovely and took good care of.
When i arrived back home, Ms. Sikoronja wrote me a mail to ensure my trip was alright and if everything was allright. I asked her about the swelling at the nasal bridge an she ensured me that everything is normal and that the swelling will migrate like that and look weird. I should restrain from touching my nose and me patient.
Nobody have noticed my new nose. This truly shows the expertise of Dr. Toncic, he enhanced my looks, he did not make me someone else. The result is natural and pleasing, and no one can see the difference only me. AND I AM HAPPY !!
