Post-op Day 40!
Hey gang,
I met with my PS today and I have been cleared to return to work on Thursday. I still have some pain in the right groin area from the bilateral hernia repairs and will follow that up with the general surgeon who performed that portion of the procedure.
My PS said it is difficult to determine if there is any fluid building up. I think there might be in the area directly above my sternum but will continue to montor it. My next follow up with my PS is on 6/12.
I asked my PS if there was any pics of the items removed and to my surprise no pictures were taken. I was under the assumption that pictures were taken for all patients undergoing similar procedures for historical purposes. So, if there is any reason you want to see or have pictures of what is removed make sure you ask before hand.
Anyway, I am anxious to return to work although that might change once I pull into the parking lot. ;)

Post-op Day 35: Unexpected return to the PS office
On Wednesday, I met with my PS who told me that we would need to keep the drain in for a few more days. Last night the drain was emptied as routine. However, when I looked at the drain this morning I found it was clogged and therefore very little fluid/serum had entered the drain. I proceeded to try to dislodge the protein that was visible by the incision site, but was unsuccessful. I tried again and give it one tug too many and part of the white portion of the JP drain was now visible and freely flowing. Pushing it back in was not an option. My wife helped me tape up the area as best we could and I called the PS office to report the situation. My surgeon wa in surgery but they were able to have another surgeon confirm what I had suspected, ready or not the drain needs to come out. The drain is now out and I have a follow-up with my surgeon on Tuesday. Worse case any excess fluid may need to get drained.
Post-op Day 34
Hey gang,
I met with my surgeon and he looked that the printout of my fluid numbers for the week and as I expected has decided to leave the drain in another week. Tentatively, I should be able to return to work on 5/14. Dr.Hing continues to tell me I am healing nicely.
