Today is the day I have been anticipating for a long time. I am having my 23 year old above-the-muscle saline implants removed today, followed by a lift. I have not had any problems with my 350 cc implants, but after reading all the posts about the dangers of implants and after seeing my girlfriend battle breast cancer, I decided it was time to get these implants removed. I have gained about 20 lbs. since I had them put in, and I just don't like the way they look or feel any more. They feel so heavy, and I think they make me look very matronly. I am having the lollipop lift after removal. Surgery is at 12:15 today and scheduled for 2 1/2 hours. Can't wait to be on the other side and looking forward to eventually being able to sleep on my stomach. So for the only negative about today is not being able to have my coffee!! I will update again as soon as I can! (PS - surgery is today - May 17th - but site won't give me that option.)

Good morning! I am feeling better than I expected today. I came home all taped and bandaged up and in a post operative bra. I do not have drains - dr. said she would make the decision about whether to use drains or not in the surgery room. I feel quite sore - especially when I try to lift myself out of bed or from a sitting position, but my pain meds seem to be handling the pain well. I am so happy to finally have the implants out. My surgery started at 12:15 and I was home by 4:00. The drugs were amazing as I do not remember being wheeled into the surgery room, the recovery room, or my ride home. When I got home, my husband escorted me to a chair, and I slept in it until 8:30 last night when he woke me up to take my meds. I am sore, but feeling lighter and grateful to have the surgery behind me. My pain meds are easily handling the pain, and I hope to switch to Advil after Day 3.

So happy to see another 60 something lady here. I am 64 with saline above muscle implants that I have had for 34 years, scheduled for removal on May 24. Sending you best wishes for a quick recovery. I would love to hear if you have had any symptoms that resolve after your explant. Hard to know what is attributable to the implants and what is normal aging.

Yes exactly how I felt.....just age I thought especially having had such an active, sporty life. However after many experiences and much research I have decided to no longer take the risk so will wait optimistically to see if my symptoms resolve and will post on here as time goes by. Thank you

Best wishes to you on a successful surgery and recovery as well. Are you getting a lift too? My doctor never suggested implants again, but did recommend a lift. I have much more breast tissue than I thought I had so am pleased so far with my results. I just feel lighter!

Hi Dolly - This site is so nice to be able to compare experiences. After reading the horror stories about implants, I was so ready to get mine out. I have also been helping a friend deal with her breast cancer so that encouraged me even more. Did you have a lift as well? How are feeling?

No lift, my mission is to accept myself as I am, no more interventions. Though we'll see after surgery. All my high minded thinking may take flight when I see myself, au natural:-)

Two days post op - Just wanted to say that my recovery is going quite well, and I am feeling great. My only issue is the tape is very itchy, and I am anxious to see my doctor tomorrow . I am hoping she will be able to remove most of the tape. I have also been taking sponge baths so am really looking forward to taking a full shower again. I am only taking half doses of my pain meds and really think I will switch over to Advil tomorrow. My breasts are hoisted very high right now (like almost even with my armpits). I am assuming this takes the pressure off the vertical incision. I do not have drains (yay!) and had a lollipop lift so I do not have a horizontal incision. I am going for my post-op appointment tomorrow so will get my first real look then. My PS said I will be either a full B cup or a small C. It doesn't matter to me. I was so ready to explant. I have had joint pains too - especially in my hips - and attributed it to getting old. Maybe it was the implants after all. I will keep updating.

Best wishes to you in your continued recovery. I'm very interested in the hip joint pain you described, as I have that, too. But heck, I'm no spring chicken.

Just wanted to make a couple of observations. First of all, I am really surprised at how good I feel. I am no longer taking the prescription pain meds and have only taken one Extra Strength Tylenol this morning. My PS did not insert drains, and I do have a little bit of fluid that has built up under each breast. At my first post op appointment yesterday, my PS encouraged me to keep icing that area. If the fluid is still there at my appointment next Wednesday, she will drain the fluid. I have also noticed that my right breast is somewhat larger than my left. My PS said that is normal, and to be patient. I have all of the tape removed except for the steri-strips that surround the incisions. It felt soooooo good when she removed the tape as I was going crazy from all the itching. Before the explant, I was wearing a 36D, and now I am a small 34C or full 34B. Either way, I love how I feel. My breasts no longer feel so heavy and uncomfortable. Right after surgery, my breasts felt quite firm, but they are really starting to soften up and feel squishy again. I am so happy to finally be all naturelle!
I just came from a consultation, to have my 16 yr old saline implants, also above muscle removed.
I to, do not want new ones.
I am not happy with my heavy, painful breasts.
Although I really liked the surgeon I met today for removal, he was very brutally honest about how bad they will look.
I'm slightly scared.
