Revision with Lucian Ion after failed primary with Rajan Uppal

ORIGINAL POST

Hello, I had my Rhinoplasty done 1 year 4 months...

Hello,
I had my Rhinoplasty done 1 year 4 months ago. I had a dorsal hump and the top third of my nose had a visible break which made my nose deviate to one side. I researched and researched surgeons and spent hundreds of pounds on consultations etc. And then I found my surgeon... Who was very confident, agreed with what I wanted to change and he made me feel comfortable and re-assured, so I went ahead and booked my surgery with him. I do not want to mention his name on here just yet.. Because I am still undecided what to do.
After the surgery everything was fine.. I bruised a lot and had a collection of blood in pockets beneath both eyes, which my surgeon said was normal.. And I was continually told that swelling can take up to a year to resolve... So I waited and waited and waited...
And now... Over 1yr on.... And I am so unhappy with the results. I do not like my face anymore. Recently, my friend pointed out that I keep on wearing scarves and then covering my nose and mouth with my scarf because I feel I look deformed now with my nose.
I have spoken to my surgeon... And he is suggesting to take more of my nose away from the bottom to even everything out... However I am petrified to do that to have no nose left. I really regret having it done... Too much bone has been taken away and I really don't know what to do. This operation already cost me £6,000 and I can not afford to be spending that again to fix this and I now don't know who to trust to fix it either... Any suggestions would be very useful.
Thanks.

If you don't feel confortable with the work of your previous surgeon DO NOT go with him again; Primary Rhinoplasty is a difficult surgery but Revision Rhinoplasty is even more difficult!, I don't know any good surgeons in the UK but I can definitely recommend you some surgeons in the U.S.: Anil Shah, Richard Davis, Vladimir Grigoryants, Andrew Frankel, Norman Pastorek; I guess you already learnt the lesson of doing EXTENSIVE research on the surgeon, remember the "law of diminished returns", every new surgery will be more difficult and with less benefits and improvements, so better spend your money wisely this time and choose only the best surgeon for you based on your case and desired results, most of those surgeons I mentioned offer free Skype consultations after you send them an email with good photos and a brief history of your case; Hope you can find a good surgeon this time and have the results you want and need; Best Regards

I did do a lot of research! That's the thing - my surgeon even won an award shortly after I had an op with him.. That's what worries me, he has a good reputation. I am thinking of getting fillers to correct it because I am absolutely petrified to go again and it be EVEN worse. Thanks for replying.

Hey sweetie, I'm so sorry you didn't get the results you wanted. It looks like you may be stuck with a polybeak deformity. How is your breathing? I've heard a number of times on this site that England and Europe in general do not have the best rhinoplasty surgeons. I think it would not hurt to get fillers done first and see if you like the look of a straighter, taller nose or whether you'd like the bottom taken away like your surgeon suggested. Generally it's best to add more rather and and take away as little as possible to prevent collapse. I agree with the above I would find a new surgeon, preferably in the states if you're able. There's a lot of good surgeons on the east coast (NY/NJ/PA). If you do, make sure you go to a doctor with extensive experience with revisions and you can see before/afters that look similar to yours. Rewards mean nothing if he can't show results!

Thank you for replying!

Am going to see even more surgeons and hope it can all be fixed, thank you so much for taking the time. X

No worries, I'm not blaming you regarding your previous research, sorry if it sounded rude, but only you know what's best for you, be careful with the fillers too, try to do some morphs in photoshop yourself if you haven't done so yet to have a perspective on the desired outcome, I highly recommend you to do the Skype interviews with the doctors I mentioned, you can get a different perspective on your problem and decide a better approach

No no I know you weren't blaming me!!
Yes, it's all so confusing with who to trust etc - and it's my face!! There's kind of no room for messing around.. I actually think your suggestion of the Skype consultations are a really good idea - I often go to the US anyway... And for perspective that's really useful. Thank you very much, I think I will contact them.

Thank you!

I think you look beautiful. It's not bad at all. Definitely don't do another surgery though. :)

Lucion Ion seems to be the 'go to' guy in the UK. Don't go back to the same dr...

I agree! Lucian Ion seems to be the UK "nose guy" going from other reviews. Do not let the original doctor touch your face again.

your surgeon should not be taking anything more off, he should be adding, building the bridge... I'm not a surgeon but ive been through this a couple of times. Please get opinions from other doctors.

Hi, I have very badly deformed nose that will be more than likely costing me close to $50,000US to fix if I cannot find a proper surgeon/ENT in Canada. Bcuz then insurance will not cover it out of country. I believe your doctor did take too much away from the top of your nose and refining the tip more could possibly give u a better look. However bcuz he took so much out(I don't know the details I am just going by your pictures and comments) it is possible that further resection could make your nose collapse like mine

One thing about the filler option, it is not a permanent fix, and it does not help with functional, however it will help your anxiety and your feeling of not wanting to show ur nose. I believe it might help you to just be more calm, because you will have your nose looking more balanced and perfect, and then you can take your time to research, consult and find the best surgeon for you. It's not permanent but it can help to make u feel better during the time u have in between now and your next surgery. Just my thoughts....

Yeah I am considering it... Thank you x X

No don't. It will make your future revision surgery more difficult and dangerous possibly causing loss of blood supply and necrosis. X

Hi sweetheart Im so sorry. Dont go back its shocking that he thinks the answer to this is just take more away! Id say you need rib graft same as I have to rebuild the bridge and maybe a little off the tip, youve seen my pics my nose was in a far worse state Mr Ion could fix this easily I know it.
Ive previously warned others who planned to see this surgeon before now, Ive seen a few left unhappy and his good reviews have always rang fake to me.
Keep strong and try and get through this Ill message you privately
Love and big hugs
Mini xx

So sorry to read your review. It is absolutely heartbreaking to invest so much, financially and emotionally in a surgery of this nature and then to end up so unhappy with the results. I really feel for you. I can only agree with the numerous comments here on not returning to the same surgeon. I recently did extensive research for my daughter's rhinoplasty (much the same as you did for yours) and finally decided on Lucion Ion. She had her surgery in mid-August and the results are beyond all our expectations. He really is astoundingly good at what he does. I agree with the comment made by Mr Uppal's office that even brilliant surgeons have revisions, but I think you hit the nail on the head in your reply in saying that he should concede the extent of his mistakes instead of attempting to minimise them. That is not the way to win back your trust. Anyway, it's your face, you only have the one and you need to very carefully consider your options and if you have the slightest doubt and loss of trust, don't go back to the same guy. All the very best to you. Xx

You are a brave woman, and I hope you get the correction you desire. You must be going through so much!

Thank you, that's very kind. I did not anticipate the emotional impact of having facial surgery.. But I suppose you only do when it doesn't go to plan. Fingers crossed that another doctor can rectify... Thanks for your message X

This surgeon is crazy to have removed so much nasal bridge without taking into consideration operating on the other parts of the nose. Im so sorry youre going through this. I hope you can find a surgeon you can trust to help. I know how hard it is to look in the mirror and be disappointed at what you see. Im sending you well wishes x
