SculpSure Trial for Belly Bulge!

Full Disclaimer: I was offered and received this treatment free of charge, as a benefit of the RealSelf RealFriends program! I have never given really serious consideration to doing anything to my stomach. I have had the passing thought of having a tummy tuck, or a mini tuck, when I've looked at other reviews on here and thought Oh My Gosh! Look how flat and perfect their belly looks! But, in reality, after having a Breast Reduction a year ago, I'm not super stoked on the idea of going through another surgical recovery for something elective. The BR was something I really NEEDED, as I'd been having so many problems with my neck and back for DECADES that I just couldn't stand it any longer. I haven't had any babies, and I don't have muscle separation or anything, so for ME I couldn't really see myself going through another long recovery and being left with a largescar, purely for vanity-not to mention the financial investment isn't within my realm of possibility at this point. But when the offer to try the SculpSure treatment came about, I thought, sure why not, maybe it could help get rid of the stubborn poochy fat below my belly button. Now, I remember my mother having that as I was growing up-no matter how slim she was it never went away. I thought it was a result of having carried three babies to term! But as I've gotten older I've realized that no matter what I ever did, mine never went away either-even when I've been much slimmer and fitter than I am currently, I always have a little bulge that doesn't go away. So I figured I would give it a try, I liked the idea that it's a non surgical approach.

I was super busy this summer and so I read some of the other RealFriends' stories while they were getting started with the process so I would know what to expect. I was given three different providers to choose from, and after doing a little research I chose White Rock Skin and Laser Clinic in White Rock, BC. This was the closest to me of the three, plus it looked like they had a good rating and reputation. I scheduled my first appointment for September 5th, right after Labor Day. I was told during the scheduling process that I could have the first treatment right after the consultation as long as there weren't any issues with proceeding.

I was nervous as I drove there, not really knowing what it would be like (even though I read about it and looked at pictures!). I had to go over the border which is always a little nerve racking, and then when I found the building I was looking for I had some trouble finding parking due to street construction which was unfortunately blocking the entrance to the parking lot/garage entrance! Luckily I had gotten there plenty early but all my extra time got eaten up figuring out where to park so I was a bit rattled by the time I got to the building. I'm not sure what I was expecting but the office was located on the 4th floor of a very modern looking glass office building! I guess I haven't been getting out of my small town very much! I found my way up to the suite, which was also very clean and modern looking with faux marble, tile, and lots of white, kind of like a high-end dental clinic. I was checked in and filled out my intake and consent forms and then off to my consultation with my technician, Barb.

She explained how SculpSure works and talked about what area(s) I wanted to treat. She did suggest for maximal results I could do 16 frames that day instead of 8 (the complimentary offer was for 16 total, if I did all 16 in one day I would have to pay for the 2nd treatment), and she could offer me a 30% discount on that which would be $4200 instead of $6000 (Canadian, so 4200=about 3100 US). This would allow me to have my flanks treated as well for the best result. Now, I had no idea whether this treatment is going to work on me, plus I didn't have 3 grand in my pocket, so I politely declined and said I wanted to just proceed with the upper and lower abdomen. After taking a series of photographs of my midsection from all angles, I was given a fluffy robe to wear over my paper shorts down the hall to the treatment room.

The treatment room looked just like a dental room! Except for the big laser machine. I took my robe off and she weighed me (EEK!) and drew the outlines of the area the areas to treat with a special marker. Then she had me lie down on the chair and she started hooking me up. I didn't take any photos during the treatment, but I know there are other reviews here with pictures of the actual process.

I'm gonna cut to the chase here and say that, the reviews I had read all said it really didn't hurt or they didn't feel much at all. Unfortunately, that was NOT my experience!! It didn't seem too bad as it was going through the initial warm up, but when it got to the "working cycle"...holy moly. How do you describe being on fire underneath your skin? Owww...we did upper abdomen first, and it was tough. After the first 7-10 minutes, I started feeling a weird feeling of pressure as well as the heating-it felt like those heads weighed about a thousand pounds, and were bearing down on my ribs. I managed to make it through with a LOT of controlled breathing, and squeezing the little foamy ball Barb gave me. She did her best to chat and keep me distracted but it was tough. THEN we moved on to the lower abdomen (I heard someone comment recently on a forum, that they were told the lower abdomen was the least painful area to treat)...it was WORSE!! I actually thought about having her stop the treatment at one point. Then I decided to tough it out (got a cool blast), but again, very borderline. I have to admit I wondered several times, "why am I doing this to myself?", then I thought, well I won't know if it works if I don't finish the treatment. So I toughed it out. I made it througuh the 25 minutes, but boy am I glad I didn't sign up for the flanks, because there's no way I would have made it through 2 more sessions of that in one day.

Barb was very kind and professional throughout, and sent me off with my aftercare instructions (hydrate a lot! and massage the areas twice a day for 5 minutes)...

I was pretty wiped so I bought some snacks for the road and headed back home. I endded up taking some tylenol as I had a bit of a headache by the time I got home, probably from the stress and tension. I was pretty sore that night and for the next few days. I am writing this one week post treatment and I STILL have a little bit of residual soreness in my upper abdomen. I guess now all I have to do is wait, and see if it seems like those areas are going down. I am also making an effort to eat better as I was kind of disappointed when she weighed me and I realized I've gained weight in the last few months (I knew I'd gained a bit, but it was more than I realized). Made appointment to go back in 8 weeks but I may have to reschedule as the day I chose I think I have a conflict. Then again I also have to decide whether I'm up for going through that again! Some gals have said they take pain meds but I can't risk taking anything through the border, plus I have to drive myself anyway.
I received this complimentary treatment through the RealFriends program.
