20 Yrs After Learning Fat Cells Have Memory. I Did Lipo!!! - Westfield, NJ

Sooo in the 1990s, in my nutrition class my professor assured the class that many people who lose weight, will gain it back because like most cells in our body, Fat cells have memory. The big statement that I held onto
For 20 odd years is "To truly get rid of fat, you have to remove it". After years of yoyo dieting, going to the gym & being weight CRAZY I found myself depressed & 235 lbs. " I'm
Still beautiful"...Maintained 235 for years "You wear your weight well" yep 230-235 lbs still & my moms infamous "I don't recognize you anymore" ok maybe I need to do something about this! i became determined to become fit & healthy. In 2007 I drastically changed my choices for food. Exercised 4-5 times a week & in 1 year came down to 164lbs. 70lbs later & loving to go shopping, I still had to hide my belly. Spanks was my friend. 5' 7 and 165 looked really good on me, in clothes.... But in the mirror naked!? My belly looked exactly the same.... Bikini wasn't ever an option!!! So 2008-2012 I maintained my 165lbs...Then I had plantar fasciitis which ended up a stress fracture... I stopped kick boxing, running, I stopped exercising PERIOD. I maintained the same diet & gained 20lbs in 2 yrs...So from 2014 to present day I've sat in the 180-185 range...In 2015 I became obsessed with real self. I really wanted a tummy tuck but I'm a health care professional & couldnt phathom such invasive cosmetic surgery. But these Timmy tuck bbl girls on real self make it hard not to want that perfection. Then down time... Do I really want to use my vaca on sick time???NOT. Then a family member did it TT & bbl in a different state. In clothes she looked fabulous. But truth was her incision was infected & had to be reopened with a VAC (a portable post op Vacuum) & that confirmed it NO SURGERY for me. The more info I read along with real self reviews, the more interested I became with Smartlipo. The only problem was-- Smartlipo wasn't designed for this here belly. Most of my 185 is in my belly & back... So more investigation. Ah hah! Tumescent & smart lipo combined is my best bet... Well guys I toyed with whether or not to share my story with real self... On 2/3/2016 I obtained upper & lower Tumescent/smartlipo. I'm going back for upper back & flanks next week. They took out 3 liters of fat. Right now in my compression garment I see absolutely no difference... I see girls right after surgery with flat belts & then days after swollen. I've been swollen since the procedure. As for pain, when I'm still I feel fine but when I move HELL. Today is day 2 & it's far worst than yesterday. Originally my Dr thought 2 lower abdominal quadrant incisions would be enough. But due to my long torso he did 2 additions infer my breast. The upper incisions are the worst. I took 2 percocets in order to sleep last night & so far no other medications...to be continued...I'm glad to finally be s part of the real self family...

Hi, I'm glad you're doing what you have to do to make you feel better about yourself. I have a friend who did the smart lipo stuff and still ended up getting a TT with lipo. Her results were better with less pain. My advise to you is, save your money for a TT. It's not that bad at all, the muscle tighten is the worse part of it all. Read my story.
I hope you feel better soon and good luck with your make over.

Hi there,

I just wanted to reach out to you regarding the tummy tuck. I had lost about 30 lbs 7 years ago so I thought I could just get SmartLipo done on the inside and outside of my thighs to get them perfect. The outer thighs turned out great, however, because of the fast weight gain and loss, my skin was too loose and the skin at the top inside of my thighs never tightened back up. I now look like I have cellulite all around the inside of my thighs and they look flabbier now than they did before. I know you don't want the invasive surgery but for women like us who lose considerable amounts of weight, lifts and tucks are really the only way to go. I don't think you'll ever truly be happy with the results the lipo alone will give you.

I agree as an esthetician i have seen skin stretched and yes tummy tuck works really well on that excess skin...you have to weigh what is important if looking great in clothes is important then go for it...if a bikin is important..consider the scar...i would be really clear on where that scar will be if I were getting a tummy tuck..i would not leave that to chance...I would bring my bathing suit in and have it on and ask him..where are you cutting me? And i bring it the day of the surgery and have it on as a reminder..

I swelled immediately too! I see these other women with flat bellies right after their procedures and I'm thinking WTF?! I want be belly to be f-l-a-t right put of surgery too lol! I guess it's all about each one of our bodies and how we heal. My belly swelled the most and still swells 4 months po.
I have incisions under my breasts, on my hips, at my lower abdomen/pubic crease, upper back and top of butt crack.
Hope this helps! I am looking forward to seeing pics and following your journey! Happy Healing!

lol At the wtf?.i was flat immediately after and then I swelled..and it took about six months for that to go down...that six weeks they claim is BS.. After a year I still looked puffy around the belly buttoni went back and my surgeon refined me some more...that was six weeks ago..I am great about compression garments I bought really expensive ones after the one they reccomended irritated my hips...I now wear Fajate by virtual sensuality and I love it..it is half the price of the others and the beauty of it..the zipper is off Center..instead of straight down the middle..I use foam between the zipper...and I went from medium the first two weeks then small now am in extra small..wearing the right size is important because if you are not compressing you will swell.. Their extra small is an average american small..you order by measurments...i feel Plastic surgeons should be providing this..and stop saying spanx is enough..it isn't I swelled so badly week 4 with spanx I was back into a medium for two days..i sometimes upsize at night...just so I can breathe better..but compression is key....also the less fat you have the less loose skin you will have to think maybe a tummy tuck to get that excess skin

Procedure experience

RockyNP
Just as I expected, Xanax & Percocet made me sleep through most of the procedure. The only times I felt anything was when the dr was suctioning or lasering under my breast. & right now that's where it hurts the worst. I haven't taken off the compression garment yet. & im scared to...My Dr & his staff were amazing from my 1st consultation, 2nd consultation & day of surgery. My Dr suggested best results would be TT but I was anti TT so we'll see.

Congrats on the smart lipo. I'm almost 3 months p/o from smart lipo. I had and still have swelling. I was a lot bigger after I had my procedure done and didn't see any changes for quite a bit so don't worry if you don't see any changes I was with you there. I also envy those that I see on here who come home looking completely different. But hang in there. It takes times to see results.

Thank you for your response. 3 months later and still swollen?? They did tell me it takes 6mths to See full results. Does anything seem to make your swelling better or worse?
February 6, 2016
Yea I workout ALOT and exercise can make you swell a bit. Also everyone is different and apparently I am just a sweller. I also am on my feet all day long and didn't get much of a rest after my procedure so that can make swelling worse.
Watching sodium, wearing compression, taking bromelian and drinking a lot of water helps with swelling.

Thanks aloT. Today is day 3 and I've already been very active. Had my first massage today. That went well but she mentioned excess skin...I'm taking Bromelain & arnica & I look forward to being able to work out.

Extremely sore

RockyNP
It's been 5 days... I measure exactly the same, so no new pics yet. As for pain, I was told the pain would be much like working out burn. Near my rib cage is extremely tender & sore. It's difficult for me to stand up straight. So many people on RS are back to work 4 days post op. I know results & recovery of smart lipo is 3-6 mths but as of now I'm a bit discouraged. Trying to maintain my positive outlook but this hurts!! I started lymphatic massage po day 2; CG 24 hr except shower & massage; Bromelain; arnica;

Loving all your updates!  Try to be patient, as hard as that is.  Too early to get discouraged!

Thanks for the supportive words!!

Hang in there.. I am 11 days past operation and still feel soreness.. especially when I've been sitting for long periods of time (at work at my desk) and then get up.. it takes a bit to get moving.... I try to get up once an hour to get more water, use the restroom and to move around. This procedure and process is definitely far from minimally invasive and I totally understand where you're coming from when you reference others being back to work and moving so freely so quickly after. I am taking it slow as I feel rushing back into things will only prolong the recovery. I find that after doing my daily massages, as painful as they are, I do feel better and "loosened up" a bit. The RN that was assisting my Dr suggested I use a rolling pin to massage the areas and I am going to start with that today. Up until today everything was extremely sore to the slightest touch, so today I brought a mini rolling pin with me to work and plan to use it a few times throughout the day. Hang in there.. you are NOT alone =)

Thank you!!!

Hang in there girl. I was the same way. Luckily I'm a stay at home mom so I didn't have to go back to work but I was in much more pain than I expected. I think about two weeks I began to feel more normal. But there was no way I could go back to work if I needed to. Also I was bigger before I was smaller. So don't get discouraged. You will make it through the tough part. I went from a size medium to a large before I went to a small were I am now at 3 months p/o
February 22, 2016
I agree right around two weeks I started to feel a little normal again.
February 22, 2016
I had my surgery the same day as you. I thought the same that it was something wrong with me because I didnt bounce back as fast its not. My personal opinion the area that is suctioned the most is where it hurts and the more they take out determines the pain. I am still out if work I will return next week.
February 22, 2016
Thank you! I'm working today & it's tolerable but hurts!
February 26, 2016
The same size is actually good because you are swollen right now I did not start losing inches until week two..then I went down sizes in the following weeks
