Two months ago it started, voice in my head, and...
So for two months I asked some friends and did my research on the internet. I finally decided I would try Dr. Rankin's new office that had opened in West Palm Beach. I have heard excellent things about the Doctor and knew that the offices for Aqua Plastic Surgery Center in WPB were part of a day spa and salon that I had walked past several times. The salon and spa had been getting a good, positive buzz around town and I've always thought, when I've past the Doctors office and spa , that the space looked really beautiful, this seemed like the perfect time to check it out.
I also knew that this medical group has had an established office in Jupiter and that the doctor is head of plastic surgery at the local trauma hospital, and I also knew that the doctor had earned himself an excellent reputation for all the charity work he has done by performing surgery on people who are suffering financial hardships but have also been in terrible accidents and now needed plastic surgery. I figured that this all added up to being an excellent place to go , it seemed that the doctors spirit was in the right place and that he probably surrounded himself with good people who, like him, actually care about the people they treat and not just about making money, the last thing I wanted was to get a sales pitch for lasers and creams and needles and a minor surgery etc etc etc. That approach might be great for some people but that's just not me. And while I want to fight the hands of time , I also still want to look natural. I decided this was probably a solid place to get an honest consultation. And I can't lie, everyone wants a deal and I figured because this office location was fairly new for the doctor, they'd probably be competitively priced and maybe even offering some specials.
But it was now, my birthday week by the time I got the guts to deal with learning the truth about my options but was truly afraid that I wouldn't be able to achieve my goals of looking younger without finally having surgery. I called the office on Tuesday to inquire if I could get a consultation and immediately launched into explaining that my birthday was Thursday and I no longer recognized the person I saw when I looked in the mirror and also then launched into all the reasons why I had put off doing this for so long and that I didn't want to look like cosmetic procedure "don't" with a face stretched and shiny with exaggerated cartoon features all due to pumping my face from tons of fillers - The patient voice on the other end of the phone laughed and listened and once I allowed her to talk , introduced herself as Holly, a genuinely caring person who listened to my whole story and all my concerns and then said to me "Well if your birthday is Thursday, we can't have the birthday girl not feeling beautiful on her special day, so we better get you into our office so we can answer all of those questions you have and get you up to date on all the options and give you a proper consultation so we can give you the best recommendations to make you like that girl you see in the mirror again." She explained that the only way to know what would be best for me would be to come in to have a consultation. She assured me that they would be able to explain all the latest options and thier anti-aging specialist would be able to give me her recommendations after meeting me and looking at what areas of concern I had. To my delight she set me up with an appointment for the very next day. Without my even asking she told me that they had some great special running and if I liked what I was told during my consultation , I could have the procedure done at that same appointment . She told me that their anti-aging and injection specialist would be there to advice me on the best options.
Next day I showed up for my appointment and was greeted by the incredibly lovely Holly who I had spoken to on the phone. I was nervous and she immediately offered me a cold refreshment and suggested I'd like to see the office and look at some photos this really made me feel more settled and felt much more at ease when I was taken to get my consultation with the specialist. I then taken met Pam who was the expert. Her advice was excellent and actually rather than suggesting several things, as I had expected , she actually told me less is best and that I should start with Botox around my crows feet as this would soften my face and reduce the lines around my eyes and forehead and they also suggested a slightly fuller lip with juvederm. She said the Botox would give my whole face a much softer look that would improve over a few days and and the lips would give me a more youthful appearance from being fuller. I told her I had recently had extensive dental work done to restore my smile and actually was really excited about the lips because I wanted to wear lipstick more often and had stopped over the years as my upper lip wasn't full enough to even bother any more.
After fifteen minutes of numbing cream she started and while I was scared, Holly held my hand and talked me through it all. And then seeing Pam's reaction to how much better my lips were looking as she did the procedure , my mind went away from being scared to being excited. In all I would say both Botox and juvederm took about 20 minutes maybe more as Pam truly took her time and studied my face as she worked on me. I received 30 units of Botox and one vile of Juvederm.
When I was given a mirror to take my first look , I immediately could see the difference and although she said the Botox needed time to really take full effect I could see that it was improved. My lips were incredibly better and while I was a little sore after being injected , it didn't stop me from putting on some lipstick and meeting friends two hours later for a birthday drink feeling and looking like had ten years earlier.
I love the results and realized that doing these little tune ups on a regular basis will keep me looking good and keep me looking as young as I feel! Thank you Holly and Pam - your advice and recommendations were dead on and your caring and service was truly comforting. It gave me the strength to actually get this done that day rather than saying "I need to think about this" and walking out because I was scared to do it. Before my appointment I thought I actually would chicken out but once I was there , that thought never even crossed my mind and now I have beautiful lips that complete my new smile and now I look in the mirror every morning and smile because I recognize the person looking back - IT'S ME!
I never dreamed that a little Botox and Juvaderm could make me look so much younger and end up being the best birthday gift ever!

Pam did my consultation and performed the procedure. She took her time , listened to my medical history and concerns and gave me good advice. I had asked if she thought I should do my cheek bones with filler and she said that I should first the Botox and my lips and see if I liked the results as I had good cheek bones and less was better because she knew one of my biggest concerns was leaving the office looking over done and inflated. I trusted her advice and opted for doing the two procedures she suggested. She reminded me that it was easier to come back for a little more at a later date than not being happy and feeling I had changed my face too much with having too many things done at once. Once we agreed on what I was going to have done , she explained what she was doing the entire time and took her time studying my face from every angle and making sure it was perfect before saying she was finished. Holly assisted me as well by keeping me calm and talking me through the procedure, I don't think I could have gotten through it all without her as it is a little more than uncomfortable in certain areas and honestly having someone there to hold your hand , or should I say, having someone's hand to squeeze when the pain increased , was a huge help that took my mind off of the pain. Both Holly and Pam talked to me the entire time giving me reassuring comments through out the procedures , refocusing my mind on how good it was all going to look once it was done. They didn't lie, picking up the mirror and looking at myself was like turning the clock back in time and seeing myself ten years younger, now that's what I call a birthday gift! I received a call the next day from Holly asking me how I was feeling, if I had any questions and if I was pleased with the results. Overall , this was an excellent and positive experience that made me realize how many wonderful options there are now to make you look better without having to have major surgery. I will absolutely be going back on a regular basis for little tune ups and feel that I can trust these ladies to advice me on what I need without being worried about having too much done as this office did not make me feel like I was getting sold a laundry list of procedures to make a sale, instead I felt exactly the opposite - they only suggested the procedures that would give me the best overall results and appearance and being able to trust your doctors advice, is priceless , especially when your dealing with your face. I didn't want to look like so many other women I have seen who look like their faces have been blown up like a balloon due to having too much product injected. It's a great feeling to know I can trust this team to tell me exactly what I need and will listen to thier recommendations for all future appointments to continue looking younger and fresh but still natural !!!!
