It's day one- post-microneedling treatment and my face looks ketchup red. My doctor used a 2mm (or higher) needle on my cheeks, and they are blazing red. Is this normal for a first session? The most I've read is 1.5mm needle.
Also, I thought downtime was minimal? It looks like I might be out for a week or more. I'm confused.

On my first treatment the nurse used 1.5 mm; and while there was very minimal change, it wasn't very noticeable. I just had my second treatment a couple of weeks ago and she used 2.0 mm this time, largely due to my complaint about my previous results. I'm much happier with the outcome so far and it should only get better. I think it takes about a month to really see the result from the treatment. As far as redness, I think the day after is the worst. On day three is when it starts to get back to its normal state. Make sure to follow post care instructions to heal faster. Moisturize a lot and put sunscreen multiple times in a day.

Great advice! Even after my 5th my face was fire engine red but for just a few hours and with each treatment I don't go anywhere on day 2. I did go shopping right after my 4 th session, bright red and all but I had the afternoon off and really, no one cares as much as we do. I was happy to not run into anyone I know but it didn't matter with strangers and I was able to buy some cute shoes red faced and all.

Is micro needling like the radio frequency treatments? I just had Profound (has anyone else had this one??). That was a week downtime before I felt comfortable going out. my jawline is still sore. Would love to hear about others' experience with Profound.

I had profound and I don't think it did anything at all. Do you see any improvement ?

Hi, how is your skin post treatment? How long did the redness last?
I just had my first of four sessions and my skin remained red for 3 days and 5 days later it's still feeling blotchy and dry. Looking forward to the fresh and clean skin feeling that everyone describes. In my experience, the downtime was definitely longer than I had first thought!

The intense redness lasted 3-4 days.. My skin is a tiny bit smoother than before, but other than the, results have been minimal. Still not sure if the whole procedure was worth the cost.

No, no trust me it's worth it, in my opinion. The results are cumulative. I didn't notice any big change after one session either. Also, after my first session I felt the same way in regards to the downtime. You are most red and sensitive after the first couple. I also, in addition to redness was quite puffy, I looked weird and didn't go out in public. My Dr. Recommends 6 sessions spaced a month apart. They start out with shorter needles and then progressively built them up as you tolerate it. I do think to start out with 2mm is too high but that's just my opinion, I am not a professional. I am currently past my 5th and 2 weeks away from my 6th and last and I am just thrilled, thrilled! I never expected such great results from something I had never even considered until my provider recommended it. My pores are noticeable anymore, (I'm 43) so the small lines around my eyes are all but gone unless I smile real big and even the shinniness look of fresh young skin appeared just after my 5th. I keep looking in the mirror, surprised and happy. I hope you have the same results! Mine also cost $300, I thought that was a deal for what it gives but you have to keep going and yes if on a budget that adds up. For my 6 when done I will have paid $1800 over a 6 month stretch. Good luck to you! I think microneedling is just beginning to catch on.

The redness will subside within hours. I've read great reviews about microneedling however I think I am a rare case. I did 4 sessions and belive this permanently ruined the texture of my skin. I'm now depressed and insecure. I wish I'd never done it!

The procedure did absolutely nothing for my skin... my skin is back to normal.

Glad to hear this! It's better to just be out some $ than to have permanent damage from the procedure.
I'm no expert, but I've read in others' reviews that redness is not unusual.

I hope that helps!
