Scammed, Overcharged, & Treated Like S^%t. With So Many Options in NYC, Avoid Dr. Gerstman.
$4,600
I found Dr. Gerstman on IG for her lip augmentations. I contacted the office to get a quote for microblading, cheek, and possibly chin fillers. I was originally quoted a range PER AREA as you can clearly see from the initial quote email attached.
My experience in the office was odd. The small office looked sketchy, out-dated, dusty, and looked like hadn't been cleaned in months. There were 3 small rooms, one of which looked like it was being used as a dumping ground, with boxes of client files all over the room, unfiled, and mixed in with cleaning supplies and products. I wasn't offered anything to drink and the manager was unfriendly and looked miserable.
My microblading experience was good. The technician did a great job on my brows. But when it came time to see Dr. Gertman, I felt rushed, unheard, and a little uncomfortable with her bedside manner.
I told her I wanted to adjust a little prejowl sagging. She laughed at me and said "Well hunny, that's just your face". I found that to be extremely petty and rude to say to a client. She proceeded to tell me that she could add Voluma in my cheeks to raise my face up and could also add a little in my chin, if needed. I said OK and she proceeded to inject 3 syringes of Voluma in my cheeks/chin.
When it came time to pay the bill, I was charged $1200 PER SYRINGE and $1000 for microblading. Way over my initial quote. When I inquired why I was being charged that much over my original quote, I was met with attitude by the manager. She condescendingly explained that I didn't understand that quote and they raised their prices since my original quote and "didn't I get the email"?
Of course I didn't get any communication from Dr. Gerstman's office about the price increase and was told: "sorry you didn't understand the prices". The worst part about all of this, her work wasn't great. I didn't say ANY difference after spending almost $4k on Voluma.
I waited another month for my microblading appointment to come and the day before (after I had already confirmed via text) the manager emailed me less than 24 hours before my appointment to tell me my original time wasn't going to work and could I have 2 hours later.
Moral is: With so many options in NYC, find a professional who is transparent about their pricing and treats clients like they matter. And just because they may have a great IG account with lots of followers, doesn't mean they do good work or treat people with respect. Look at her Yelp reviews if you want a real picture of how she and her staff operate.
