Vivace Was the Worst Thing I Could Do for my Skin

I’m afraid I have to comment negatively on this procedure. I’ve had a series of three treatments, about a month apart and after the first treatment I broke out in cyst-like lesions around my jawline. The same happened after the second treatment but at that time I was not making a connection between the treatment and the breakouts. After the third treatment, it was obvious that there was a distinct connection and the breakouts had started to appear on my cheeks as well as my jawline. I visited my provider with my problem and was sold a cleanser that was meant to help. It didn’t. It’s been over a year now since the beginning of treatment and I’m breaking out more than ever. These are not pimples. They are lesions of some type and take up to a month to heal. I’ve also had a huge increase in sebum production with lumps forming daily that require extraction. I’m making another follow up appointment today to show them the extent of the problem. My skin is now very oily and requires twice a day washing. Unfortunately, I have not experienced any tightening of the skin which was the reason for wanting the treatment initially. Maybe my results are a fluke but I think It just wasn’t what I hoped it would be.

I'd like to tell you, the same thing happened to me! I had 3 treatments, with the 3rd being the most aggressive (the last treatment being performed August 2019). I knew acne type breakouts could occur directly after treatments so I wasn't too concerned but by the 3rd treatment, the profile of the breakout changed and became very cyst-like and quite pronounced. My skin historically has been very clear and often people complimented me on the quality of it, esp given my age :). Now, I am inundated with cysts and red lesion marks. Overnight, they will just pop up; from my eyebrows to my jawline to my cheeks. The only area untouched seems to be my forehead. Often they are deep under the skin and fester, others will be surface and full of congestion. I've been eliminating any oil based moisturizers & trying to only use Vitamin C and serums to counterbalance the oil production. I have had some good luck with evening primrose oil on the red marks, it seems to help reduce the redness after the cyst has reabsorbed or after I extract the congestion. I was very disheartened about a month ago given the scope of the acne but then I read posts from two RS members who had the same problem and they did say over time the acne began to dissipate. I'm hoping I'll be lucky enough to have this all subside but no I would never do this procedure again...and I have had a number of laser, microneedling, Ultherapy treatments so I am not "treatment shy". I had high hopes for this device but nope, not again. I do hope you improve and find relief. Would love to know what your provider says to you upon seeing your cysts first hand. Be well!

OMG. You’re the first person to say they had the same thing. I’m relieved. About a year ago I went to my provider with my concerns and she said I was picking at my skin. Well maybe I was but where did the lesions originate? Not from picking. I will try some of your methods. I have also found hydro colloidal patches really help evacuate the “serum” and, if used a couple of nights in a row, it helps eradicate the cyst more quickly. But they still hang on for a ridiculous amount of time. Like you, I had nice skin before this procedure. I’m mostly disappointed in the lack of tightening in the jaw and neck areas which is why I did the procedure in the first place. And, I have not had one cyst in my forehead either. The amount of sebum that has developed is ridiculous and I have to evacuate the white lumps daily. I’m glad there will be an end to this because it’s humiliating. $3000 for chronic acne. Thanks for posting.

I had a very similar experience! My complexion was nice prior, and afterwards my skin was red almost burnt for about a week... And then following I had cystic acne that was completely out of character for at least over a month. I also found it very painful even with numbing
I do feel like I had some skin tightening, however. I've done microneedling and ultherapy before without nearly as much pain as I had for this procedure.

I’m sorry to hear that. At least yours went away after a month. It’s over a year and I’m still breaking out. And I didn’t get any skin tightening.

I think I saw someone post how their face was getting more and more gaunt due to that. Frightening.

That is pretty frightening since I have about $1000 worth of fillers in my face. I hope they keep me plump at least.

I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon since my last post and he was quite surprised by my results. I look like a meth addict, I’m so broken out. I scheduled to have a facelift to tighten what the Vivace didn’t and he’s also going to do a fat transfer into my cheeks and around my mouth. That way I never have to have fillers again. I never liked the procedures that’s aren’t permanent and need to be repeated to remain helpful. I am a little worried about my skin and how it will react to the fat transfer but I think it’s the best answer. I’m scheduled for Jan. 6, 2020 so I’ll let you all know how it went.
