I was sent to Dr.Gray through another Doctor's referral. After reading his reviews and meeting him in person, I was convinced he was the right surgeon for me... Unfortunately, I was wrong. His comforting personality and his confidence in what he said he could accomplish won me over. I was born with a right ear with bent cartilage. Having had my ears pinned back earlier in life, I was only seeking Dr.Gray to focus on my right ear, having it mended to look as close to my other ear as possible. As a student, I stressed to Dr.Gray that I did not want to pay thousands of dollars and go through the lengthy recovery time, unless he was confident that he could execute on what he was promising. Pre-surgery, Dr. Gray said that he was confident that he could bring my ear back so the bend would not be noticed, that he could shave off a unnatural bump on my anti-helix, that he could raise my ear so that it seemed to be the same height as my left ear, and that by pulling back the ear, he would be able to make the bent cartilage more natural. I made sure to have Dr.Gray show me (demonstrating by positioning my ear) exactly what results he was confident he could perform. Unfortunately, he could not. Before and during the surgery, Dr.Gray and his team were very polite and comforting. After the surgery, my ear was recovered for about a month. I was very careful with my ear, not working for a full month. During that month, I watched as my ear became unswollen, slowly sitting in its new, natural position. Let me stress that I was not expecting my ear to look perfect, I was only expecting what Dr.Gray told me he was confident in accomplishing. The unnatural bump was left untouched, my ear was not raised at all (still sitting much lower then my other ear, my ear was pinned back another 2 millimeters (unfortunately bringing back the ear by only 2mm has caused the bent cartilage to shot out sideways, rather than up like a natural ear), the bent fold at the top of my ear is still very noticeable, as the ear was not brought back enough. After seeing Dr.Gray, 2 months post-surgery, he dismissed my concerns telling me, "I knew you wouldn't be happy with the results based on your expectations during the consultation," and "I couldn't wake you up mid-surgery and ask you what you wanted, and so, as surgeon, I did what I though would lead to the most natural results." I wanted to tell him that I told him exactly what I wanted pre-surgery, and if you thought I'd be disappointed for giving up my summer and thousands of dollars just to have my ear pinned back another 2mm which would cause my bent fold to shoot out like a goblin, then you should not have taken me on as a client. Instead, being the non confrontational person I am, I allowed him to pat my knee and shake my hand... I really wanted this to be a bookend to the chapters in my life where I would not have to be concerned with ear, but unfortunately that is not the case. I am writing this review because I want other individuals who consider Dr.Gray to know that, despite all the positive reviews I read, Dr.Gray is not perfect surgeon. And if you are considering any sort of ear surgery, I would highly recommend that you consider other options.
