WORTH IT
Well, damn.

I've finally done it; after years of indecision. I'm laying here, 6 hours post op, and I can't stop grinning.

For reference; I am 5'8, 87kg and had work on my full abdomen, flanks and lower back.

I'll post pictures accordingly.

Day of Surgery

znnnnnie
Hopefully this breakdown helps you out.

Hans Place Practice is very organized. They send out what to expect on the day, products that would benefit you during your recovery and all essential information once your appointment is booked (my love & adoration go out to Shazia & Sofia, you were so attentive and kind!).

On the day itself, I arrived 30 minutes early due to sheer nerves (and a fear of traffic). I took my anti-biotics an hour before. Once I arrived, I met Shazia and she asked how I was doing and directed me to the lounge. I was given a sexy piece of underwear & bra, socks, a hairnet and a bathrobe. I changed with the door closed and waited, as someone was still in downstairs. Moments later, I met with Dr Comins, who took me to the office to get marked up. He is very kind, patient and understanding of your desires (I would also mention that I felt so safe in his care).

After this, we took pre-surgery pictures and I turned to the lounge. I was going to be IV sedated and paid the fee (£900) before the nurse, Caitlin, arrived to take me downstairs to the surgery room. On my way, I saw Sofia at her desk but was too nervous to have a chat lol.

Caitlin took me into her office for a discussion about the surgery, my medical history, current medication use & to take my blood pressure. Later, the anesthesiologist arrived to discuss the process of IV sedation and to sign documents. I got my wrist strapped and made several fists to get my blood flowing. He commented on the fact that I had small veins and I laughed (no idea why, I'm not sure what that means even. Let's blame nerves!). He found a good and chubby vein to puncture and I looked away (it was only a lil pinch).

Once this was done, I was taken to the operation theatre. Caitlin made a comment that it's just a load of machinery & I shouldn't be worried. The whole team was present & I stripped out of my robe and entered the table. I placed my hands on a table and chatted with Dr Comins before closing my eyes for what felt like a brief second. Once they opened, we were done and I was being ushered into my garments.

Confused and surprised it was all over - I didn't have much questions. I felt big, due to the vest & garment but that's to be expected (compression is essential!). Caitlin informed me that my chaperone was upstairs and helped me get dressed. I was given a goodie bag with some extra supplied (which I forgot in the taxi since I slept most of the way lol).

I felt virtually no pain. I could walk normally and sit down. It's just a bit of a struggle when you're all bandaged up.

I got home, ate, drank at least 3 liters of water and went to bed.

I kept waking up every 3 hours to go pee & I still continued to drink water lol it was fine but some would use a "she-wee" as it's uncomfortable to sit down, especially so low.

I was leaking quite a bit and it's expected for the next 72 hours, so I just packed a lot of puppy pads around me. I also have drains, so it was coming out a lot.

Overall, first day went well!

Day 1

Lotsssss of fluid! I'm able to walk around just fine but getting up from a plank position is a little woozy.
I highly suggest getting continence pads during the first 3 days. They have helped a ton.
Throughout the day, I've been eating and drinking a lot of water - so going to the toilet often. It's gotten a lot easier to maneuver myself around this.
I tried to stay off co-codomol (heard to causes constipation) but the pain had gotten a little intense so I've had two tablets.
My drains are still in and planning to take them out when I shower next, unsure if I'll need to leave it open or bandage the wound after though, as I still think I'll be leaking (will check with the practice in the morning).
Overall, it's been pretty smooth!

Keep it up and happy recovery! How long did you wait from 1st consultations to booking the next available surgery date?
April 4, 2023
Thank you! I got a consultation pretty much 2 weeks for I inquired. The next available date was 5 weeks after :)

Hi, I live 2hrs away from London and am wondering if it's best to stay in a hotel on the first night of the surgery or if it is more advisable to go home?

I live 2 hours away too and recommend going home if you can. There's a lot of leakage the first night and the stress of cleaning up a hotel room and white sheets would be awful! A car lift home is fine as the anaesthetic is still working for a while.
