Final Records and contouring
Today I had my appointment for final records which entailed one last iTero scan and some photographs. My Orthodontist also did a little contouring as my left central upper incisor was a touch longer than the right. She also evened out the bumpiness on the two lower central incisors as well. The contouring was done with a tiny high speed tool with no discomfort or weird sensation whatsoever (way less of a filing sensation than IPR). The change is subtle and we may do more later but for now I am very pleased!
Finished Pics!
Well...I'm done!
On December 2nd I went in for my appointment after having worn tray 13+ (overcorrection tray) for almost two weeks. This was following the additional IPR needed for tray 12 to track properly. It was decision time - do I finish or opt for a second refinement? The 13 refinement trays were to address a couple of issues. Firstly, my top right central incisor was longer than the left. Secondly, I had a black triangle between my two bottom central incisors and they were not lined up next to each other very well yet. The refinements sort of fixed these issues. The top are not perfectly lined up as the right incisor is still a touch longer than the left. The black triangle is closed on the bottom BUT despite IPR they now look a little slanted to me across the crown. The question was did I want an undetermined amount of trays and go months to achieve a further result that no one would likely be able to see? I knew going in to this that Invisalign would not give me perfection and that is not what I had initially been looking for. I had straight teeth following my adolescent orthodontics and I wanted them back! I now have a new version of them back, along with a pretty smile and in that, I achieved what I wanted. So I made the decision to finish up.
I didn't feel the glee I did when my metal braces came off and I can't figure out why it's been a bit anti-climatical but maybe it's because I'm an adult paying for my own treatment. Whereas when I was a teen my parents forced me into the metal torture devices? : )
So, because the bottom teeth were hypermobile my Ortho applied a fixed retainer and scanned me for a Vivera (clear) retainer that I will pick up next week. I will wear a Vivera over top of the fixed retainer plus Vivera on top (with no fixed retainer). I think the bottom fixed retainer may come off later on after the teeth have stabilized.
I will update and post some pictures of the finished product soon!
