Today I did it!!

It's been five years in the making and researching surgeon after surgeon.

I was 18 when I decided I getting this surgery. I almost went through with the first one four years ago but the surgeon didn't seem fit for me and I was financially unstable.

So the motivation on getting this surgery was both medical and physical. I had some pretty gnarly loose skin and fat pockets and you could guess what it was like in the mornings. It would swell up like a balloon and my peripherals were MESSED UP. It did not look very professional either. Coming into morning work meetings looking like I had just been boxed to death by Muhammed Ali is a big no no. It sucked. And while my vision suffered a lot, I hated how I looked aesthetically. When the swelling subsided from the morning, the excess skin would come down just past my lash line and obscure my vision. Anytime I put on makeup, my eye liner would just disappear in a sea of skin. So for like two years, my makeup routine involved two pounds of dark Kat Von D eyeshadow to camouflage the puffiness of my eyes every morning.

I know I'm making it sound pretty light hearted, but I actually hated how I looked for so long. My confidence took a huge dip because when I looked in the mirror I saw a person who looked tired, weary and angry staring back. And this is what people see, when they see me

Surgery

The surgery was not that nice for me. I took some Ativan and it didn't help soothe my nerves at all! The assistant was so wonderful and she told me it would be a painless procedure. And for the most part it was. The freezing injections stung. Removing the skin wasn't so bad, but when he got to actually prodding around deeper with fatty tissue, it hurt! I think it hurt so much that by the end of the surgery, my body decided to flood itself with adrenaline and I was jittery and restless immediately after. But even with feeling pain in the incision, I conked out in the car on the long ride home and slept for a few hours. Meanwhile my boyfriend went and got take out for my favourite food and snacks trying to cheer me up when I woke up :)

That is the first and last time I think I will try local anesthetic. I felt too much pain this time, and it could also be due to the fact that I am a little more resilient to sedatives than most people. I'm sure people have done very well with local anesthesia for their Blepharoplasties but I think it's just not for me.

But no need to worry, all is well! I am now resting with some T1s and those cold gauze pads are my best friends right now!

Day 2

Swelling has gone down quite a bit, and I've been babying it like no tomorrow with cold gauze and a little bit of polysporin. My vision is a little blurry and my eyes are quite dry but the stitches feel really tight and I haven't been able to open my eyes that much due to swelling.

Hey thanks! :) :) you know what, I don't even think I've got a picture that shows what my hooded eyes look like since I got pretty comfortable covering them in makeup. Maybe I'll try and find one :)
