Vaginoplasty/Perineoplasty and Posterior Repair

I wanted to write my full experience on here due to the fact that I chose Dr Pelosi III based on all the information and reviews that I read on Realself, and I will continue to update as my recovery goes on.

I had my surgery done this past Tuesday, 10/11/2022, and I am 6 days post op today. I had a vaginoplasty, perineoplasty and pelvic floor reconstruction (large rectocele) My surgery took about 3 hours. I was under conscious sedation and don’t remember anything. I really don’t remember much even after surgery until about 6 hours after my surgery was over, and although everyone is different, please make sure you have someone with you that is “all in” to care for you if you decide to have this done. My friend was a godsend to me.

I passed out twice after surgery and went to the emergency room on post op day two. My lab work was fine and my ECG was normal… so they gave me two bags of fluid and just chalked it up to vasovagal syncope and told me to rest. My blood pressure continues to drop EVERY TIME I try to stand up and I nearly pass out, so that has been the hardest part of recovery. I purchased a walker last night to help me around for my safety.

Pelosi was great following up with me after surgery and when I was in the emergency room, making sure I was okay while also suggesting tests to rule out any major complications. According to him though, passing out is not at all a normal occurrence that his patients experience after this surgery, so please don’t let that part scare you away. And I have other significant stressors in my life right now in addition to this surgery that’s not helping my case. I still can’t stand up completely when walking and don’t make it too far without having to take a break, but everyday I’m getting a little better. I’ve had a very minimal amount of bleeding the last 6 days post op and very little discharge thus far, so the smell I have been forewarned about hasn’t hit yet. I haven’t assessed tightness or anything at this point, but even just visibly there’s a huge improvement. I can’t wait until the recovery period is over but I will continue to update as time goes on!

As for Dr Pelosi III personally, he is very easy to talk to and is more than willing to ease your mind and answer any questions that you may have, even over the phone. I was an out-of-state patient, so I called into the office a few times to get questions answered and ease my mind prior to surgery. He is confident, not arrogant, and has great bedside manner. (And I say that as a registered nurse working beside many doctors throughout the last 7 years) Thanks Dr Pelosi for being a great surgeon and person. And I’m sure when I’m past this rough part of recovery, I will be even more thankful! :)
