WORTH IT
I had a double mastectomy and chose to have reconstruction. I am so happy that my breast cancer surgeon referred me to Dr Heck he and his staff are so amazing with the care they have given me. I am very happy with the outcome. My confidence level and self-esteem have both improved. I can't thank Dr Heck and his staff enough!

Welcome to the community and thanks so much for offering your opinion of your doctor.

It would be great if you could give us a little more detail about your experience, like why you had the surgery, your tips for getting good results, pros/cons, and info on the recovery process.

Our community members especially love seeing photos from before, during, and after — a realistic look at what they can expect. Photos grab the attention of the community and encourage more support for you.

As a community manager, I get requests all the time from other members who want me to to keep encouraging people to share their experiences, which are so helpful for others considering these procedures. So please accept this as a well-intentioned request from thousands.

Wow!! Your new breasts look amazing - so natural! I envy you getting through it all so fast. I take it you didn't need chemo and radio? I'm 19 months into process, just had DIEP flap reconstruction, 2nd breast and 2nd reconstruction still to go.
Look forwards to seeing your final result!

I was very fortunate that I did not have to go thru chemo or radiation. I chose to have the double mastectomy once I learned i have the BRCA2 gene. One cancer cell was found but nothing in my lymphnodes I am truly thankful for my medical professionals and the guidance they gave me. I hope and pray your journey goes easy and you have a good outcome as well. Thank you for your comments and once my scars have disappeared I will post another picture.

Well done you. I had same surgery 10th June 2015. My scars are still very raw and go from arm pit to chest, both sides. Wondered what you used on scars? If anything? To help reduce redness. Emma x

After my mammogram showed a spot my breast cancer surgeon advised me to see a genetic specialist which revealed I have the brca2 mutation. They found one cell with cancer in my right breast and found it was starting to form on the other. Had I not had the mammogram I would not have caught the cancer in time. I had the mastectomy in February went through the expansion process and got my implants at the end of May. I have been so blessed to have great medical professionals and a great support system.

You look amazing! They look so natural! What kind of implants did you get?

Thank you! They are high profile memory gel 600cc. I'm very happy with them!

Hiya. I also had bilateral mastectomy 4 years ago. My implants look OK, but are very cold to touch and extremely firm from day one. Not capsular contraction as always been like this and no major difference between irradiated and non irradiated side. Would you mind me asking how yours feel. I'm really not sure whether this is normal or not. BTW, I had to have my nipples removed but I came to the States to have my tattoos done by Vinnie Myers in Baltimore. Check him out. He does a much better job than your standard hospital tattooist. Even tattoos in the glands! He specialises in this, which is why people travel to hime from all over the world.

To touch mine feel fairly normal for implants. I guess best way to explain would be like they were when I was in my 20's and are the same temp as my body. I plan to go to Living Story Tattoo here in Columbus. I Have seen the work Christine Siegel does and it looks great! May I ask why you had your nipples removed? Did you get 3D nipples tatooted?
October 22, 2015
Thanks for that. I wonder whether my skin is just so thin that they don't keep warm. I had my nipples removed due to extensive DCIS throughout both breasts right up into the nipples (in addition to tumours on both sides!). Yep I had 3d nipples tattooed. Pretty effective looking.
