I started the Botox injections because it was a last ditch effort on my part. I have had injections in the head nerves from a neurologist before cause he was strictly a migraine doctor. His office is over 60 miles one way from my home, but we didn't have any neurologist's here at home. Things have changed over the years and now we have a neurologist here in town that dose specialize in migraines. That alone was a great relief to me. I started the injections in September of 2015. Those injections really didn't help much, but then I have had the migraines since 1980. The second set of injections helped a little more even though the Dr. said that I would probably have about 10 weeks of being pain free. Needless to say, I was slightly discouraged at the outcome. The third set of injections, worked sooner that before and lasted longer. I was elated!!! I have just finished my 4th set of injections about 2 weeks ago and now I am pain free. I still get bad headaches but now the migraines. My family was used to seeing me take some pills and then fill the ice bag and then go lay down in my room with the curtains drawn closed and all lights off and the boys were always quiet when they saw my bedroom door closed. I don't know how long the injections will last, but to me, it is a small price to pay for relief!!
I haven't noticed any wrinkles gone or anything like that, but then, I am almost 68 years old.
For anyone trying to decide if this treatment is for them, I will say that to qualify, you need to have 20 or more migraines a month and tried the traditional methods first. That is to say, pills & Immetrex or some other migraine medication. There are many on the market today. It is when these are ineffective, that your insurance will pay the bill. Your Dr. has to determine that you qualify and you must be a patient of the neurologist or your PCP for a long time. I feel that this is the right decision for me, since I have used all the pain pills in the world that never worked except those made exclusively to treat migraines.
