Unilateral Breast Reduction
During summer 2021, I decided I was financially and emotionally ready to get breast surgery. When I hit puberty, my left breast developed more quickly, and they unfortunately never evened out. By age 27, the left was still larger, lower-set and had a larger areola. At first I thought the only option was breast implants, but after doing some online research, I realized I could get a unilateral breast reduction with an areola resizing, which was great for me because I really wasn't keen on the idea of implants. I took a long time to research different plastic surgery clinics near my city, and I decided on Dr. Gervais's practice. The website went into the surgeons' backgrounds, offered lots of before/after photos, gave good information about their services and was overall the most professional-looking site I had come across. I waited a few months for my free consultation (which goes to show the surgeon is in demand, and for good reason!), and when I arrived I was greeted by their lovely staff and beautifully-decorated office. The nurses did a great job of doing a thorough medical background, and the billing specialist made everything very transparent and easy to understand. When I met Dr. Gervais, his kind smile and voice instantly made me feel at ease which says a lot because to this day he is the only man who I allowed to see me in broad daylight pre-surgery! When I told him I didn't want implants, he assured me that was no problem - he would simply remove the excess tissue and re-shape the areola to match the other. He listened to all my concerns and made sure I understood what the produce would entail. The actual day of surgery was a breeze for me. Their anesthesiologist such a cool and funny guy, and Dr. Gervais took a long time to make sure his measurements and pen markings were exactly where they should be. I remember one nurse grabbed my hand right before the sedative took action and said, "We'll take good care of you." I felt so comforted in that moment. Fast forward 8 months and few check-ups later, and I couldn't be happier. The recovery was super easy. I only needed pain meds for a few days, the stitches were all dissolvable, and my anchor scar continues to become even more flat and skin-toned as time goes on. I often times forget the scar is there. My partner and I both agree my breasts now look pretty darn identical. Finally I can wear whatever top I want without having to worry if my asymmetry will be obvious, I can go braless without giving it a second thought, and I can feel completely relaxed during intimate times. Dr. Gervais and his team gave me a body that I now feel perfect in after 15 years of being uncomfortable, and I will forever be grateful for that. I highly recommend anyone considering breast surgery to see Dr. Gervais and his amazing team.
