Hi guys
I've been following real self for almost 2 years now and I must say I'm grateful for the honest reviews and opinions I've seen here. Well now I would like to share my story with y'all. I had a rhinoplasty in Baltimore in 2014 which was somewhat a disaster, the dr I chose was so conservative to the point that I almost thought that he didn't do anything. But with the little that was done I managed to return to England with a pretty crooked nose which worsened over time due to excessive scar tissue. I lived with this for a year and contemplated looking for another American rhinoplasty surgeon as I did not have faith that British rhinoplasty surgeons could understand the complexity of the African nose. Anyhoo I did not want to go through the whole process of traveling again so I took a step of faith and sought a British surgeon. I only met with one surgeon and decided to go with him based on 2 pics on his website. It took me 6 weeks to decide to go with him and so far I have been impressed. My op was on 6 Oct and I am now recovering. No bruising and my breathing has improved significantly (this had been obstructed by the vast amount of scaring in my nose from the first surgery). I will have the cast removed on Tuesday 13 October. Pics to follow if anyone's interested:)

Hi,
I also had secondary rhinoplasty on 6 th October with dr Ion,
I think that I saw you in the reception next day. Unlike you I cannot breath through the nose, now I am worried that I had a cold :-( my nose is totally stuffed.

I did stay overnight because my op was late. My nose does get stuffy on and off but I can mainly breathe through it. But from what I understand it is quite normal to feel stuffy so I wouldn't worry too much at this stage

I also stayed overnight because It was an option that I would have rib grafts so I decided to prolong my stay till next day.
I hope this stuffiness will off soon, it is very irritating, especially in night.

Yes it is worse at night for me too. Good luck with recovery.

Congrats, hope you're recovering well!! I think I might have spoken to you before about your surgeon in Baltimore. Did you need any grafts in your surgery with Ion? I'm meeting with him soon for a consultation x

Hey newstart_2

Yes I did have rib grafts and I must admits that was the most painful part of my surgery. As I'm of African descent I had a low bridge thick skin etc. It was open surgery so he cut the columella.

Thank you. Good luck with your recovery.

congrats i wish you a speedy recovery! im having surgery with lucian on the 10th of my november and im super excited but nervous! would love to see some photos when the casts off etc! How was the going into surgery as that always scares me as i have ectopic heart beats !! xx

Hi APAP3
I wouldn't worry too much the anaesthetist looks after everything else. He put a tube down my throat to ensure my airway was patent throughout surgery. But my throat was pretty sore afterwards!! And they also take care of the cardiac side of things too. I noticed afterwards that I'd had a cardiac monitor on to monitor my heart during the procedure! I really think you're in good hands. The nurses were really nice too. The worst thing before surgery was being nil by mouth coz I was sooooo hungry

Day before cast removal....

So my cast will be removed tomorrow morning. My nose looks great even with the cast and my bruising is minimal because Dr Ion said he 'shaved' the bone rather than breaking it which apparently causes horrendous bruising. I'm gonna post some pics with my cast tonight for y'all to see. Btw I have noticed that my nostrils are uneven but you can only see this from underneath.....hopefully as the swelling goes down things should even out.

Hey hiddenbutterfly

The picture without the cast is my nose before. You can see how the columella hangs downwards!
