Staples out & shedding hair - Day 17

Wishing_Star
$4,176
Got my staples out finally! What a drama - l had made an appointment with the nurse at my doctor. She is lovely, she has been my nurse for over 10 years. I arrived and she got ready to get started but l didn’t know that the doctor’s surgeries in the UK do not keep staple removers in stock. The patient is meant to bring 1 with them from, whoever put the staples in. Apparently staples come in different sizes.
So, she couldn’t take them off for me & she didn’t have appointments free for 2 weeks. The staples were meant to come out on between day 12&16. My appointment was on day 14. So, she advised me to go to the local walk-in centre.
Went to the walk-in centre waited for 2hrs to be seen only to be told the same thing. They also do not keep staple removers in stock. The nurse there said to go to the hospital emergency department & they would be able to take the staples out.
What a waste of a day! I couldn’t go to hospital that day as it was now time to go collect the kids from school.
On day 15, l went to the emergency department waited for over 3hrs to be seen. Then nurse there, then told me they are not allowed to take out staples or dressings & that was my doctor’s nurse’s job. I was so annoyed having wasted yet another day but at least l got the staple remover.
Day 16, l went back to the walk in centre & wasted another 2hrs waiting. The nurse was nice and took out the staples for me. It hurt a little but l was over the moon to get the staples out. I was happy to be able to give the area where the staple a good wash and take care of if.
The area has heal nicely. It is still tender but not painful. The rest of my head feels good with no weird numb areas. I read quite a lot of the reviews here and heard about people having numb areas even after 3 months.
The new hair has started to fall out since day 12. The shedding got more and more progressive till day 15 but now it’s a little better but it’s still shedding. When l wash my hair the little shed hairs look like l have had my hair shaved. The had sheds in single hairs at day 12 & 13 l shed 2 hairs joined together(if that makes sense)
I still have a decent amount of hair that hasn’t shed yet, so l am hoping the shedding stops and these hair stay & grow. That would make me happy ????
I am still over the moon with joy. Every time l look in the mirror, I get a glimpse into how my hair line is going to look & how my new hair will be like???? l am so happy, even though l can’t wear my hair out in public yet.

Swelling has gone down about 90% & recovering well.

Wishing_Star
Not much of an update. It’s just over a week since l had the surgery done.
The swelling has gone down now but not completely. Went out for a meal with friends last night and they didn’t notice, which was great.

The back of my head is healing fine but it’s just a little tender and stings a little when l was it.

I have no pain now and l am not taking any pain killers.

I did my 1st proper washing with a little gentle rubbing to encourage the scabs to come off. Till now l was only allowed to gently wash using a dubbing/ taping method. Washing only with baby shampoo given by the doctor.

My regular hair care routine is sort of on hold since l have to wash the front & back of my hair daily. My hairs feels a little dry but it’s still looking healthy. I am missing caring for my hair properly as l had established a good routine.

At the moment most of the scabs have come off, there are still some but not much.

It’s wonderful l can see the implanted hair and it looks like it took well. I am still a little worried about the left side of my hair, there seem to be less implants there (remember l said I felt the nurse doing that side seemed more interested in watching tv) l didn’t say anything about the left side of my hair to hubby & today he said your left said does seem to have the same as the rest of your head.

I will keep you updated with the progress. The next, will be my stitches out next week.

Day 4 (3 days post surgery) - Swelling is worse

Wishing_Star
No pain & feeling good but wow the swelling today was bad. These pictures were taken when I woke up, l thought this was bad but the swelling got even worse that these my eyes are almost closed from the swelling, l couldn’t really take pictures but it’s bad especially on the left side. I can’t even see my eyelashes on both eyes. Hubby is writing this review for me, so that the order of the dates stays right.
I iced x4 during the night for about 2hrs in total. The swelling improves during the icing process but comes back as soon as l stop. Hubby has been great & encouraging but the kids are a little freaked out. All in all l am ok because l know it looks bad but it’s temporary. I have been watching YouTube videos on what to do with facial swelling, so l hope things get better very soon.
Hubby has changed his shift around till Thursday so l don’t have to leave the house to take the kids to school. Thank God l work from home, otherwise l would be stressed if l had to go to work on Monday like this, as this Saturday night at the moment & the swelling looks bad.
I will keep you updated with my progress. I am still happy l got the surgery done. The grafts look great & clean. I also did my first wash which went well.

Hi, hope the swelling has gone down by now! You're brave to have done the surgery, and I really appreciate it that you've written in such detail about your experience. Thinking of having the same surgery done, possibly by the same doctor but still on the fence. Plus in the process of buying a house.. so it'll take me a few more years I reckon. I look forward to seeing the end result of your surgery in a few months, keep us posted!

Honestly the 1 thing l regret is waiting for so long to get it done. If you can some how get it done sooner, DO IT!
I swear a shed a tear when l got back to the hotel after the surgery, l wondered why l waited for so long & suffered all these years but l totally understand your situation too
