Simply, The Best of the Best!

After eating clean and regular exercise, I lost 32 lbs. in a little over a year. I kept this up for another year and the weight loss stopped. No matter what I did, the scale would not move. Not. one. single. pound. It became hard to stay motivated to go to the gym and it also became extremely depressing especially since a myriad of doctors said nothing was physically wrong. So, I decided to look into an abdominoplasty. I was very apprehensive about doing this since I never had evasive surgery before. I put my research background to work and took a deep dive into the procedure and the plastic surgeons who perform them. After six weeks of research, I narrowed to down to five doctors and read ALL the reviews for these five doctors except for Dr. Reish’s, as I stopped after the 200th 5- star review. I got it, Dr. Reish was five- star in every category, one of the best of the best, so I made an appointment to see him. I had my free consultation with him on a hot and humid July day. I came in with a book filled with 5 pages of questions, he answered them all and looked at me and said: “lose some more weight and come back in three months.” His concern was for an optimal outcome, not a money grab and I sensed a bit of a perfectionist in him, which I liked. He kept my expectations realistic given my age and ultimate weight goal.
I came back in October and the surgery was scheduled for November 30th. The pre-op was extensive which made me realize that this surgery would only be performed if all the “ducks were in a row.” The week of the surgery, I spoke with a nurse and anesthesiologist who answered my questions and assured me my extreme anxiousness was just a “bit of anxiety” – a first for me. By the end of the call I was calm and ready.
I’ll never forget looking at November 30th on my calendar which had written on it “life changing day” and off I went feeling a bit nervous, excited and for the first time in over a year, hopeful. Hopeful that my frustration was finally coming to an end. I went in feeling confident as it was crystal clear that this surgical team headed by Dr. Reish was “Top Gun” from top to bottom. There are marines, and then are the SEALS. I was going into an operating room of SEALS.
My surgery was a resounding success as I lost inches and I finally had a waist again! Dr. Reish had sent me his cell number and he texted me the night of the surgery and for the following couple of days. What doctor does that? I saw him three days after my surgery, with follow up every 2 weeks for six weeks. During the holidays in December I texted him that I had a fever and the prescription was at my pharmacy 20 minutes later. When I went back to see him in January, I talked about my still lingering fever, my extreme fatigue, loss of appetite and profuse sweating. He told me to immediately see and ENT, immunologist and infectious disease doctor. I asked why the infectious disease doctor and he said, “because of the fever.” I went to all three of these doctors not knowing another life changing event was around the corner. The infectious disease doctor referred me to an oncologist who diagnosed with stage 3 large diffuse B-cell lymphoma. Extensive chemotherapy started three weeks later.
Dr. Reish not only changed my life but he saved it by listening to me and referring me to the appropriate specialists. I had a follow up in July during my chemo – I was bald, bloated and in full gladiator fighting mode. Dr. Reish and everyone in his office who saw me, hugged me. He took my picture with his staff and asked me if he could post it on Facebook – which he did. This compassion and support got me through some dark days. They say you have defining moments in your life. One of mine was looking at him in the eye and saying: “you saved my life.” It was a moment of complete gratitude and one of the most humbling moments of my life. On what I thought was my last follow up in November, I was a little sad as I was going to be saying good-bye to my “Tummy Tuck Team.” I was amazed at my results and how little of a scar I had given the length of it – it was barely detectable. I was told “no, you can come back as many times as you want.” Again, what doctor does that??
Dr. Reish both changed and saved my life. The level of expertise, professionalism, compassion and care by him and his office staff was unparalleled. What was this worth? – everything!! Today I am in remission, living a full and happy life with a confident self- image thanks to Dr. Reish. There are marines, and then there are the SEALS…
