So Glad I Finally Did This

Pregnancy was rough on my body. My babies were huge and I gained and lost nearly 60lbs each time (almost half my normal weight). As a result my belly wound up looking like a big blob of melted plastic. I work out all the time and no amount of diet or exercise could ever get rid of my loose skin. For years I told myself that it wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t like it but it was just vanity. I could cover it up, although I could only wear loose shirts because anything fitted made me look like I had a gut. I’m 44 now, definitely done having babies, and finally decided that feeling insecure about my body was no better that being vain. It was something I thought about frequently either way.
Pretty much any local person you ask in this area will tell you that Dr. Jain is the best plastic surgeon in town. I’m a cheapskate in a lot of area of my life but when comes to surgery, I’m not cutting any corners.
Dr. Jain was very honest and professional. His staff has been with him for ages, which says a lot about a business in my opinion. Everyone did a thorough job of explaining the procedures and costs.
Dr. Jain recommend abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with liposuction of the flanks. I questioned if I really needed the lipo, but I’m really glad I listened to him because it made my results so much better.
I was really nervous about surgery, but I read statistics that say the mortality rate for tummy tucks is about the same as that of having a C-section- very low. The week before surgery they gave me a long list of prescriptions to have filled. My insurance paid for the meds. I followed all the pre-op instructions and everything went well with the surgery.
I woke up in very little pain. They had injected a long-acting numbing medicine in my abs during surgery so the pain didn’t really start until the second day. It was pretty intense once it did start. It was manageable with the prescription pain medication but getting up to go to the bathroom was not easy. I had to do this weird little sideways shuffle because it hurt too much to even put one foot in front of the other. Day 3 wasn’t much better. By day 4 the pain calmed down some. I could walk a little with my hands on my knees as instructed by the doctor. I had my drain removed about 5 days Post surgery. I really didn’t have much drainage. At this point I was just taking Tylenol for the pain. The constipation from the prescription meds was no joke. The fiber pills they recommended did nothing for me so I had to get some Mirilax and chased it with prune juice.
I was glad I had my surgery during a cooler month (October) otherwise the binder I had to wear for 6 weeks would have gotten very hot and sweaty. By week 2 I was feeling better, but although I was allowed to walk upright at this point I was not physically able to. By 3 weeks I could stand about 90% straight. I work from home so it wasn’t too big of a deal, but there is no way I would have been able to go back to any other kind of work environment before 3 weeks. I think the 2 week off from work recommendation is very much best -case scenario. I was very fit before surgery. Maybe if you’re still in your 20’s or just have a mini-tummy tuck 2 weeks is possible.
A month later I was finally able to stand straight and felt mostly back to normal. At 6 weeks I got back to running, biking and the gym.
I’m 3 months post surgery now and beyond happy with my results. The scar is still fading, but will just be a low line from hip to hip that most bathing suits and underwear should cover. Dr. Jain was honest with me before the surgery that since my stretch marks went so high up on my belly that they would not be gone completely. In some light they are barely noticeable though. My belly button turned out perfectly (my old one was pretty much hidden under loose skin anyway).
This procedure was 10000000% worth it.
