Tummy Tuck at New Life Plastic Surgery

I got my tummy tuck done by Dr. Oliver Simmons. I was referred to him by a friend. I planned this for months. I finally paid my booking deposit with my coordinator Ashley P and set a date for 8/20/2021 on a Friday. Booked my flights to Miami and went to my pre-op visit that Thursday. At pre-op they went over paperwork and re-reviewed my medical clearance file. They told me to come for surgery at 7a the next day. I did and was seen a little after 7 because the doctor came in and talked to me about goals. Expectations and assured he’s going to have me looking really good. He’s a very nice man. I had the tummy tuck woke up in excruciating pain. New life writes the prescription right after surgery so I advise to buy Tylenol extra strength to have some type of relief right after. I was given my prescription and wheeled out. I didn’t have one problem with the staff. Everyone was friendly. Tomorrow I go for my massage. I think I’ll get to take the binder off and see my stomach. After meds I can deal with pain better it still hurts. I’m swollen and being cautious so my stitches won’t open. The pros having the surgery the cons the pain and knowing it’s a tough and time consuming recovery. I got my own room and my husband came with me. I didn’t want to use a recovery house. It’s hard to tell right now how good anything looks so stay tuned for pic updates. This was just for the process itself!

I took my binder off to clean the blood off the skin so I was able to take a few pics. It’s just been one day after. There’s a lot of pain and swelling. It hurts to cough, laugh, walk, everything literally hurts. I’m taking my meds to cope better.

It's hard to tell when there are no before pics, but it looks like it's going to be big positive once you get through recovery. Thank you for being honest about coughing, laughing & the recovery. No pain, no gain! Happy or you!

Hi ladies. These photos were taking a couple of days before surgery so I could give an honest review. I had a pouch and small hernia. Even with working out it was stubborn. I dropped my BMI down to 29 right before surgery so I did slim down a little from drinking smoothie king and I stopped drinking sodas for two months before my surgery. Hope this helps so you can compare before and after.

Hi, did they do any muscle repair? If no, how was your recovery /pain level?

Hello yes they did do muscle repair. Honestly I felt like I couldn’t breath. My chest was really tight. Pain level was 9 but I had Tylenol extra strength. They don’t give you your prescription until your surgery is done then you wait two hours to get it filled from the pharmacy. I recommend pepto chews and drink a soda slowly it will make you burp and the tightness which is gas will stop. Now that I’m on the pain meds I’d say the pain is about a 5 and pretty much just discomfort more than anything.

Thank you for the information. You look great by the way! The Doc told me that I wouldn't need muscle repair, so I was curious to see the pain level. Great idea reference the Tylenol. Happy healing!

Hi plucky. I wanted to update you when m this post because it’s important to provide accurate information. I haven’t talked to my doctor since my surgery I see him this Friday. I was under the assumption muscle repair came with the tummy tuck automatically. I just spoke to his nurse who said I didn’t have muscle repair done because I also didn’t need it. So the pain I was speaking on was the regular feeling from having a regular tummy tuck with no muscle repair performed.
August 24, 2021
Oh wow! Ok, thank you for the information. I would have thought that the muscle repair would have been so much worse, ie. Pain when laughing, etc. Good to know!
August 25, 2021
I think you need muscle repair if you have a hernia. I don’t think it’s normal unless something has affected it.
August 25, 2021
Hi, the doc told me that it is not needed if the muscles are not pulled apart, ie. from childbirth. My son is 24 so they are well healed. He said they were tight, so not needed. (thank goodness ☺️)

Thani you! You look great!

Hello! I have a question regarding my Belly button? Have you had any problems with heeling or infection?

Hi Breezgirl I didn’t have any issues with healing or infection. I continued using strips to cover my incision area until it healed and I cleaned my belly button and used ointment.
