The Surgeon for Diastasis Recti

Dr. Rahban and his whole staff are the best of the best. I had severe diastasis recti after my 38 week twin pregnancy. I did two years of physical therapy and exercise to no avail. My OB and PTs all told me I would need surgery to really treat it; they said PT and exercise does get you better prepared for surgery, and I believe it was beneficial for me. However, there is absolutely no way to get back to your old self, feel like your new self, or really just feel strong and fit without surgery if you have severe diastasic recti. My entire team told me this - not just plastic surgeons. Being a type A personality, I tried anyway! What finally got me to go to plastic surgery consults was my twin boys getting older, running, and playing and me really feeling like I couldn't take part in that. I didn't want to watch my boys' lives and my own life pass me by; I wanted to play too - especially after all my mind and body had been through to have them!

I went to other consults, but as soon as I met Dr. Rahban, I knew he was the guy for me - or anyone with diastasic recti. I "studied" him online - his podcasts, reviews, website, Instagram, etc. I had a good feeling that he knew everything about the condition and was capable of repairing it. But when I met him, his confidence and conviction really came through. I wanted someone who had seen and heard it all when it came to diastasis recti and who was undaunted. Within the first few minutes, I knew this described Dr. Rahban. I also loved how direct he was and, best of all, that he just got it and got me. He ensured me that he could address my condition, but when he asked me how I wanted to look, I drew a blank. I had been focusing so much on function that I hadn't thought of aesthetics, or that it was even something to consider. He said he'd take care of it and I felt really good about that because we connected so quickly and I knew he would consider me as a person when adding the "art" to the science of surgery. I just really felt like I was in the right, capable hands. He took time and validated things I experienced (where other doctors had tole me "that's weird"!) and that I researched and took time to educate me further. He takes all aspects of his craft very seriously, and it's something I tremendously respect -- and benefitted from.

I am one year post-surgery and I am recovering so well. I feel strong, fit, and capable, which has made me happy and even feel like a better mother. And I look better than I looked when I was a teenager. I am a darker skinned South Asian woman, and my scar is not raised and not dark (unlike my c-section scar was). I am blown away by this. Dr. Rahban spends most of the surgery time on meticulous "sewing up" so that you don't have a terrible scar. I just can't believe how great my scar is given my scarring history.

Dr. Rahban and team were there for me throughout my recovery. They take recovery very seriously and are pretty conservative about what to do during the first few weeks of recovery. I was able to call them with questions and concerns (e.g., "Is this normal??") and they were always so kind, responsive, and informative. I always felt like I knew why something was happening as opposed to "yeah, that's normal." Although recovery for me was not painful per se, it was intense both physically and emotionally. I highly recommend considering your team and whether they take the time to know you because you will need them during recovery. And I cannot recommend Dr. Rahban and his team enough! One of the best decisions of my life and totally life-changing. To all of you with diastasic recti who are reading this, please consider your condition as a medical one and consider getting surgery with Dr. Rahban as a life-changing, empowering treatment to a real medical condition (despite what the medical and insurance complex say). Take care of yourselves, and/or let Dr. Rahban take care of you! Hope to see you on the other side of diastasic recti!
