Liposuction w/Renuvion
After having two children, I was at my highest weight of my life. Standing at 5'5 I weighed 187lbs at 16mo postpartum. Through diet and exercise, I was able to lose 35lbs on my own. I felt proud and ecstatic - this brought me down to my pre second baby weight! Even as exciting as this was, I still wasn't "happy". I had lost weight pretty evenly but was still hanging on to most of it in my lower stomach, a problem area I had since a teen.
I did a lot of research for cosmetic procedures that could improve this area for me. I had a consult for a tummy tuck and decided it wasn't for me. I didn't want to do anything that invasive, didn't want the scarring, and ultimately had no loose skin + good elasticity so it wasn't a necessity.
The next direction I went in was liposuction. At my consult with Dr.Wright and his nurse Savannah, they determined I was a perfect candidate. Good fat, good skin, and a good attitude. I was PUMPED! I thought I was finally going to have the body I had been working so hard for. We decided on liposuction in my upper & lower abdomen, flanks, back, and bra line. I was told that if I would be happy with atleast a 50% improvement that I would be thrilled with the outcome. I also chose to add on Renuvion, a skin tightening procedure that was sold as "giving up to 70% of the tightening a tummy tuck would give".
My surgery was easy! It was tumescent lipo, so I was awake (though sedated) and it went quickly from what I remember! They said they were able to take 2L of fat from my body. They wrapped me up tight and sent me on my way. I was sore, but honestly it just felt like a really intense workout sore. No actual pain. My skin felt tender but numb. Overall, I'd do it again 100x over. It was that easy! The compression they put me in was comfortable and I didn't mind wearing it. I didn't love that it went all the way down to my knees, but it was a small price to pay.
At my 48hr checkup, they did some after photos to compare to my before. HOLY COW. My stomach looked so flat! Everything honestly looked so pretty and good, I cried on my way home. I was told that I would begin to swell and that the next 2 weeks I could expect mild-severe swelling and bloat as my body begins to heal.
About two weeks in, I no longer saw that flat belly I was so excited about. I was bummed, but reached out to my nurse and she explained it was all part of the healing process and to continue wearing compression. I also noticed some lumps and bumps but was told to massage them out. They didn't frighten me. Again, a small price to pay to have a flatter tummy!
At my four week mark, I no longer needed to wear my compression 24/7. Only during the day or times I would swell (exercise). I was beginning to feel really disappointed in my results as I no longer had that cute flat tummy I had at my 48hr mark. It very much resembled what I looked like before. I didn't see much improvement to my stomach at all to be honest. I saw most/all improvement in my back and waist. If there is one thing they gave me, it was a curvy hour glass shape! I continued to massage and compress and crossed my fingers hoping my belly would start to flatten out.
I'm currently at 6.5 weeks post op and feeling pretty discouraged about my stomach. Don't get me wrong, I love my waist! I have a much more defined hour glass shape now and my butt actually looks bigger! I have extremely minimal scaring and hardly any "loose" skin. I am still quite lumpy in my stomach and the fat that remains feels hard/dense. I don't have a flat stomach. Less round in the front, sure. But my side profile pretty much looks the exact same as before I went in.
I love Dr. Wright and his team. Everyone has been amazing at Laser Lipo & Vein. I just don't think that this procedure gave me what I asked for. The areas of improvement are great - being my back and waist but my stomach not so much as there is hardly any improvement at all. I was told at my final appointment with them that this is visceral fat that only diet and exercise can improve. I do wish I would have known the realistic outcome of my stomach area before I paid $6,600 for the procedure.
I have no hard feelings towards the doctor, nurses, or procedure itself. I'd reccomend liposuction to anyone asking! I just wish that the way my tummy looked immediately following surgery is what it looked like now.
