ORIGINAL POST

I just went in for all of my Pre-Op instructions...

I just went in for all of my Pre-Op instructions and paper work. 63 yr old with 32 yr old saline under muscle implants. Just realizing, I have had them for almost 1/2 of my life. I had originally gotten implants after having a lumpectomy on one breast, and was left thinking, I was "lopsided" So went in to get one side done, but decided to go for it, and went up 2 cup sizes. I have never shared with anyone that I have even had this procedure. So not only am I nervous about the surgery, but feeling like I will need to explain "what happened to my boobs" Should I wear something in my bra to make up for the size difference? Or just wear loose fitting clothes and say nothing? But what I do know is that it is absolutely time to get them out. My left side is so painful and hard, I am not able to raise my arm, with out feeling a pulling sensation. I cannot lay on that side either. Hugging anyone is painful, and I also always feel like any physical contact.....they must feel how hard that side must feel. My surgeon thinks the pain will be gone after the ex-plant. So at this point I am nervous, excited and scared all at once. will keep posting....

Good luck drg40! You will not regret it! I was uncomfortable sharing too, but forced myself to share with some close friends. Your friends love you, they will support you, not judge you. The more I talked about it, the easier and more relaxed I felt. We've even had a few good laughs , which is really the best medicine. If people stare at my boobs afterwards, or ask, I'm just gonna tell em. I think you're gonna ROCK your new body! And won't have to hide a thing! I will be following your journey. Wishing you healing and happiness!

thank you so much for your reply and support. I am so nervous and anxious at the same time. You are right, I don't think I will be judged. Maybe the only one judging is myself. I feel like I have been living a lie for so long... and now it is time to revile the real me :)

Keep us updated. I am interested in following your progress.

will do !!

Hello drg40! I am 57 and have 29 yr old silicone unders. I was scheduled to remove on July 19th but at pre op I ask to see before and after pics because I was told this PS had done many many explants. However, there was not one pic to show me. SO...I walked out lost 600 bucks and now I'm awaiting another consult. I too have had implants for half my life. And I have thought the same things you are thinking. I'm terrified and excited to get them removed. But the wonderful ladies on this site have help me so so much. We are all here for you also. I am following your journey and I am wishing you the absolute best. Thanks for sharing. I will be posting pics of my journey as soon as I secure the RIGHT surgeon.
July 9, 2017
Wow !! I hope you are able to find someone that you are comfortable with. I was actually the opposite. They asked if I want to see photos and I said no. I have seen many already. I will do my best to keep posting of the progress :)
July 10, 2017
You must be very confident in your surgeon's abilities not to want to see his before and after photos! The surgical skill of your plastic surgeon will make all the difference in your outcome. Thank you so much sharing. I will continue to watch your progress. Wishing you the very best

I do understand they dont always have a lot of photos on hand to just share with every one. I have done medical photography for several years. They are normally kept private. My Dr. actually said they only had one example they could show. There are laws for patients rights, so they are not always able to show everything, like we do on this forum. Sorry to hear that you lost your money, especially since it was just a consult ?
July 10, 2017
Actually it was not at my consult it was my Pre Op. This PS had two offices. I was at a different office for consult. I paid 600 to hold my surgery date and I was told his before and after pics were at his Pre Op office and would be shown to me at that time. I am very well aware of medical privacy and Hippa laws. My husband is a medical professional. However...many GOOD plastic surgeon have before and after examples of thier work that they can shared with a patient. Even though we all heal at different rates and we are all individuals in each surgical case a PS should have and be willing to share examples of his work that is simular to your case. And frankly when not even one pic could be shown to me of EXPLANT without replacement...I no longer felt comfortable with that PS. I have seen very good out comes on this forum...BUT...I have also seen Horrific outcomes as well. So...for me...I'm taking my time until I find a surgeon I feel 100% confident in. I'm glad you have a good PS that you trust that's extremely important. Surgery is nothing to be taken lightly.

Oh... thank you for the clarification, Makes more sense. I do agree with you, It is your body and you have to be the one to live with it. Please keep everyone posted. I hope you are able to get a desirable outcome

got it all done this morning. Just feeling a little tired and tender. The whole thing was over in under an hour. Feeling so much better already. I actually didn't understand what people meant when they were saying, so soon after the surgery. But when I woke up, I felt the same. I hope you can soon join the club :)
July 13, 2017

Are you getting a lift also? How long have you had your implants?
July 11, 2017
no I am not getting a lift. And I have had mine for about 32 years...
I figure I will just live with what I have.. :)
July 12, 2017
I am 60 and I have had saline under the muscle for 35 yrs. the left breast has slways bothered me a little and now its sagging more than the right and I keep holding it up. I had a mri and everything looks good but I think I need them taken out while everything is still good. Are you having problems?
July 12, 2017
I am 56 and 1month post explant after having implants for 33 years. It is a load off my mind. I was happy with my implants but knew it wasn't a forever thing. A rupture scare forced the issue for me. Even though there was no rupture, I'm glad to have them out. It is a bit traumatic in that you are changing something that has been part of you for over 30 years. I told myself that I could always get reimplanted if I just couldn't live with being small. Now that it is done, I am positive that I'm done with augmentation. I still don't like having "boob envy", but I am past feeling inadequate over the whole deal. Best wishes.

I'm having my procedure on August 2. Can't wait! I was at a family dinner last night, and decided to share my news. I figured they're going to notice something's different about me anyway. Everyone was wonderfully supportive and we actually had a few good laughs about the whole situation. I can't wait to have this done! Good luck to you!

what an inspiration !!! Best of Luck to you :)

Update....one day post op !

drg40
The journey continues ..... Yesterday was a wild ride, although it seems like it was much longer ago than that. Now looking back it seems like yesterday was a bit of a blur, but a good one. The procedure went well, and I was taken over by such a sense of calm, that I decided to hang on to that feeling and it really helped. Went in at 6:30 in the morning and was back home by 10:00 . The worst part was simply the overall anxiety of the process .( The medical staff was wonderful and I didn't even have to go home wearing a cone on my neck, I promised I wouldn't lick )
Yesterday there really wasn't much pain. Today is some pain, but it is more localized, if that makes sense. Like a jabbing feeling in one side or the other. I am such a light weight when it comes to pain meds, I found if I take a 1/2 of the prescribed one, with a whole tylenol , I don't have such a brain fog. Sleeping upright is a bit of a challenge, but I do have a bed that raises, so that helps, but for future reference I would strongly suggest to have about 2 extra pillows that are soft enough to hold onto and fold if needed. It just feels good for protection. Tomorrow is another day, I hope to write another update.

How are you doing today?
July 14, 2017
hi, I am doing fantastic !!! Lastnight I decided to see if I could sleep with out any pain meds. I actually did it. Then woke up this morning full of energy. DId finally decide to take a 1/2 of a pain pill. It isn't a constant pain, but it is more like a jab that seems to come out of no where. So this at least make it a little more manageable. Other than that, I am still pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

Your photo after removal looks fabulous. So much better than with. A much more natural shape. I hope you continue to heal well and have fabulous results. I replant in about 10days, I'll be thrilled if my results are as good as yours. X

Day two post op. Here they are, just hanging around waiting to continue to heal. All I am getting now is an occasional jab of pain, but it is tolerable.

Hi there! im glad to hear your healing is going well so far. Your pic looks real good too. Did you have them explanted thur your areola area? How long did you have drains? And did you have a capsulectomy? I finally found a PS that I'm real excited to see. I've heard nothing but positive things about her. But she is hard to get in with. My scheduled appt is Oct 4th! But I'm also on a waiting list for a cancelation. So hopefully I will get in before Oct. I'm in a lot of pain with my left breast.
July 14, 2017
Hi, Yes, so far I am doing great. Yes I did have them explanted through the areola area. He did them through the same scars that I had the implants done. Yes I did have a capsulectomy just on the left side. I dont have a drain. They said I would but I did have one. My right side is almost pain free too. I hope all goes as well for you. I was also supposed to be at a later date, but got in on a cancellation. so maybe your luck will also turn in that direction :)
July 14, 2017
Thanks for telling me that...I sure hope I get in earlier too. It's nice that your PS did it thur the same incision as implant. No extra scares for you! That's awesome. Rest and take it easy today. :-)
