Medical Student Who Had a Tuberous Breast Correction with Dr. Anna - Beyond Amazing Experience.
Summary: Dr. Anna is 10/10 one of the best doctors you'll ever meet. She is an amazing and caring human being, and a highly skilled surgeon/artist. You'll want to be her when you grow up. Don't think twice if you're looking to get your breasts done!

Having surgery was a really big deal for me. I've had some prior bad experiences that left me beyond terrified to go under anesthesia. I carry a lot of trauma from them.
I'm also in medical school and maybe I know too much about possible risks/complications of surgery, so the decision to have an elective surgery was a big one. I was also a bit of a more complicated case (thin with tuberous breasts), and those corrections don't always turn out well when you see before and afters online. But I desperately wanted to correct my tuberous breasts, ideally under local anesthesia.
I spoke to a few excellent plastic surgeons over the course of a year, yet still felt hesitant to book any surgery. After meeting Dr. Anna virtually, I knew immediately that if I decided to get breast surgery, there would be no way I'd be able to go with anyone else. She listens, she is kind and compassionate, and she takes her time. She told me it was good I was putting a lot of thought into this to ensure I made the right decision for myself. I had previously felt rushed by other plastic surgeons. I was also worried about their (lack of) experience with tuberous breasts, and felt their aesthetic didn't match my goals (too big). The other surgeons were also really trying to push me into a circumareolar lift, which I wanted to avoid due to possible complications.
Dr. Anna and I discussed my concerns, goals, and options over 2-3 virtual appointments total. I am forever grateful for her patience and understanding, and allowing me to book follow-up appointments to go through new questions that came up as I made my decision. I was encouraged to send photos of what I want and don't want which I appreciated - the other (very skilled) plastic surgeons were not that interested in seeing my goal photos. Together we came up with Option A (what she thought was best and would involved general anesthesia) and Option B (local anesthesia). After a number of months, I finally decided to go with Dr. Anna's ideal approach (Option A) despite my fears of going under anesthesia. I trusted that I was in good hands and the Neinstein Clinic was very accommodating.
Dr. Anna and the rest of the team at Neinstein never once made me feel bad about being nervous and needing some extra accommodations/individualized anesthesia and surgical plans. They were fully supportive, understanding, and upheld every single one on the day of surgery. I asked to be awake while they prepped me in the OR and I was not nervous AT ALL before going under - only excited! (and this was without any 'relaxing' or anti-anxiety meds). If I had gone anywhere else, I know I would have been terrified. The entire Neinstein team really cares about providing compassionate, dignified, and person-centered care which meant *everything* to me. As a medical student disheartened with approaches to patient care in the healthcare system, this experience instilled a lot of hope that I'd be able to find a job in medicine upholding similar values as the Neinstein Clinic.
The anesthesiologist I had for my surgery was also phenomenal. She took my concerns and medication history seriously and modified some things for me. I woke up 5min after being rolled out of the OR and wasn't groggy, out of it, or dysphoric at all. I woke up clear-headed, content, and felt normal. I had zero side effects from any of the anesthesia medications. Her and Dr. Anna are some of the most caring and skilled physicians I've ever had.
My results from my surgery are also better than I could have ever imagined. I avoided a lift and instead had an implant + fat transfer + internal reconstruction done to improve the shape of my previously tuberous breasts. The results exceeded my expectations, considering my start-point. Tuberous breast reconstructions are difficult to get right, and Dr. Anna gave me arguably perfect breasts. She didn't even touch my areolas, yet they now sit at a good height and look perfectly proportionate to my breasts.
I came from out-of-country and worked hard to get the money to afford going with Dr. Anna, and staying for a few nights in NYC. It was absolutely worth it. I'd do it 100x over. I've had no complications and recovery has been pretty seamless.
If I could go back in time and change anything, or give anyone advice, it would be to go in-person for a sizing appointment well before the surgery date. Even if it's difficult to arrange due to being far away. I sometimes feel like my implant size isn't quite right, but they do take time to settle so I might feel differently a few months from now. Dr. Anna has provided me with full assurance that they will get it right if I still feel this way months from now.
Every single interaction - from booking my first consult, to squeezing in an extra post-op appointment just to provide me with reassurance has been amazing. I've always felt so happy, comfortable and taken care of by the team at Neinstein. If you can make it happen, even if it means flying in to NYC the day before your surgery, I would absolutely not go anywhere else.
